Teen Titans (Vol 1) Happiness-Crack Showcase: Donna Troy, Part 3 (FINALE)

Then Donna meets Lilith -- her first redhead friend that I desperately wished her to go gay for! We see Roy be a skeeze! And the wonderful lovely JOKER'S DAUGHTER.





Donna is jealous! And petty! She's used to being the one the guys make cheesy lines over!! While Donna loses her jealousy over other girls, she stays a jealous person throughout continuity, which I love.



They find out Lilith is psychic!!! And are really rude to her.



Donna continues to RRRR at her and the Teen Titans are quite unwelcoming. Eventually, Lilith is like "Okay whatevs" and continues to dance.



Lilith is a fierce girl, so she doesn't take abuse very well. While Donna is kind of a meanie to her, Lilith manages to hold her own while also caring for Donna, regardless.





They both continue to be gorgeous and hang around and be fierce



Eventually the girls begin to warm up to each other a bit more!




Get a job together!

Fight losers! Of course, Lilith impresses Donna and appeals to her SAPPHIC AMAZON SIDE




Have weird...cracky 70s era titans adventures.

WHO HAS HILARIOUS DIALOGUE

And then Lilith heads over to Titans West, shows up in a couple of arcs in the New Teen Titans, and then dies with Donna in Graduation Day.



Poor thing.

Also I just posted that image because it's both beautiful and hilarious.

Meanwhile, as we near the end of Volume 1 of the Teen Titans, Roy's and Donna's flirting turns into actual mini-dates that are shown as a kind of background thing every once in a while. This comes right before she heads off to college.




Donna befriends Duela Dent, who is just an awesome troll. While she adores the gal (whose age and looks changed 1000 times between volume 1 and volume 2), she and Roy had an antagonistic relationship.

Right in front of Donna, too. Now we know what she meant by saying he "blew it about ten more times" after his first screw up.



Totally don't know how to react to Mal's joke there. Oh yes, and then Mal becomes obscure (and maybe dies? I can't keep track anymore) and Duela dies in Countdown, uselessly.



Donna then goes to college with Sharon in California, where she majors in Art History. After, of course, winning Most Popular and Best Smile in high school (this is NTT canon in vol 2!! Hurhur). She and Sharon part ways (but stay in touch!), and Donna rejoins with the Teen Titans. This time, she moves on to an alien warrior princess best friend, who lasts her entire life :') later on. Months later, she meets Professor Terry Long, and soon begins to date him. They get serious, fast, have a wonderful wedding where no priests explode, Donna goes through a couple of identity crises, Robin plays Detective for her often, she and Dick get closer and closer as friends, she forms babby with Terry and gets depowered, then fails to get her powers back from the Gods. She joins the Darkstars because she hates being useless so she decided to join ... a useless team lol. TERRY DIVORCES HER BECAUSE SHE BRINGS NOTHING BUT CRAZINESS ON HER FAMILY and he wants a normal life for his son. Meanwhile Kyle Rayner joins the Teen Titans as a rookie, he and Donna get cute with each other, she trains him in self defense, they date, they fight, they break up, they date again, they get really serious, she meets his mom (that he lied to her about and told her she was dead), she helps Kyle reconcile with his Mother, and on that very same night loses her ex-husband and son and stepdaughter. She breaks up with Kyle, gets her identity erased completely, is reconstructed by Wally's memories (as Kyle says: ANYONE BUT WALLY!!)


Donna starts to get deeply disturbed by the fact that she's constructed from idealized memories of a childhood friend who held a torch for her, and begins trying to prove that she's not a pollyanna fantasy of herself by dating Roy. She and Roy have a sweet but doomed relationship (like all of Donna's relationships? :D And Roy's, for that matter), she breaks up with him, she gets killed by a Cyborg Superman, she gets resurrected as a Goddess, and is forced on a mission in space that is ultimately useless and just kills a few characters, she helps Kyle deal with his Mom's death, she then hops around the Multiverse with Kyle and Jason and ends up getting nothing done, then reforms with the Titans and they all fight, then Roy gets maimed and his daughter is fridged, then Donna's ex-husband and babby get brought back as zombies and she ends up crushing her son's skull in her hands, then gets turned into a zombie, then Blackest Night ends and she has to rebury her family and then deal with the bad Roy storyline and also joining the Justice League.


SHE HAS THE BEST WRITING EVER.


WHERE WILL HER STORY GO FROM HERE ON OUT? With the Titans gone (and now a villain team) and the Justice League being a substitute league in the eyes of many until the big seven is back and available, where will this fair lady go? WHO KNOWS. Probably in the ground like so many other Titans!!

For good this time.

SERIOUSLY. Duela was so amazing!! So much could have been done with characters like her and Lilith! IT IS A SAD THING. Very. Just like Pantha's death, and Bette's limbohood.

But Roy was always very ...yeesh.

His women had curves. It's the one thing that Perez didn't translate well, so his Donna and Lilith were less extraordinary-looking. Cardy's Titanesses would have scared Kory.

I love how everyone is drawn. They're all so pretty! And they wear their clothes now, even when the clothes are silly by modern standards.

True, dat. I think after school is done (I've got four more weeks worth of final projects, it's gonna be insane, with hundreds of drawings to do), I'm gonna really study this stuff in depth. I need to learn to do pretty girls anyway, and this is a good opportunity to learn from a master.

Well they also forget that Donna totally loved Jennifer Long, her stepdaughter (that issue where she reads her a bedtime story about the titans is SO CUTE UGH) because she wasn't there to haunt her either. Maybe Donna's fridged loved ones were too much to show? They would all be fighting over who gets to troll her more.

Also kind of random but I'm also disappointed that Slade and Tara didn't really get any time... unless they did in his book I didn't read that yet... I just heard that was all the Wilson family/Wintergreen though.

That's because Blackest Night Lilith was Omen, and I think subconsciously Donna knew that it wasn't the 'real' Lilith, who I assume is living an interesting life outside of the superhero shenanigans, maybe in Vertigo? (My theory is that Mr. Jupiter became obsessed with his first Titan and created Omen-droid as his 'daughter' ala "Caprica", and that's why it behaved unlike Lilith and had an offpage 'burial'.)

I love how Mal and Wally are just randomly frugging around and shaking their booties despite there being no particular source of music that we can see. They're dancing to the crackle of the campfire! Yow! Git down! Groovy, baby, groovy! (Of course, this particular sort of thing is more Donna's department, but it's hilarious anyway.)
I think Mal is still around - I'm pretty certain he's married to Bumblebee, or was, anyway.
So is this series of yours going to feature Duela at any point?
