Just heard over on the George Perez facebook page that Dick Giordano passed away this morning at age 77, and it's confirmed on Newsarama here
The notification came from fellow professional Bob Layton
It is my sorrowful duty to announce that legendary artist/editor/entrepreneur Dick Giordano passed away today.
Few could ever hope to match what he accomplished in his chosen profession, or to excel while maintaining great humor, compassion for his peers and an unwavering love for the art form.
His unique vision changed the comic industry forever and all of those who work in the business continue to share in the benefits of his sizable contributions.
I have been honored to call him a business partner, mentor and dear friend throughout the majority of my lifetime. We will not see his like again.

On a personal note, I regret that I never got to meet him in person, but in my dealings with him for these commission pieces, he was the consummate professional and a gentleman to the core.
I can only echo Mr Layton, we will not see his like again. That and send my thoughts to his family and friends.

(The pic above the cut was the cover to a published book of his work, so I hope counts as a legality scan)

Regretfully, Bob Layton
His contribution to DC comics over many years is almost beyond measure (Just as an example, I ran his name through comics.org for his credits, and got 6918 returns!). Penciller, Inker, Writer and Editor he helped shaped much of what we take for granted these days.On a personal note, I regret that I never got to meet him in person, but in my dealings with him for these commission pieces, he was the consummate professional and a gentleman to the core.
