So, continuing the thread from This Post, we have the multi-part crossover story "Time and Time Again", which is basically...well, it's very similar to the current situation with Bruce Wayne. But first (Adventures of Superman 476):

(Apologies for the atrocious quality on those first few pages, my scanner is...well, it's a bit of an arsehole at times)

Superman is sent through time in an explosion while fighting generic Terminator-reminiscent anti-hero, the Linear Man, who wants to return Booster Gold to his own era. He goes through most of the scenarios you could think of, and every time gets caught in an explosion that bounces him from past to future. In the mean-while, every issue had a couple of panels dedicated to the sub-plots: Perry White deciding to spend more time with the wife, Jimmy Olsen & Lucy Lane getting interrupted in a make-out session by Jim's wife, the board of LexCorp having a boring circular discussion about Luthor's will, Bibbo getting drunk (what happened to that guy?), and, of course, Lois. As I said in my cut-text, this is probably the first modern-age occasion in which Lois waited for Supes to come home from an adventure while worrying.

That era Superman liked music. There's a great scene when he was rooming with Jimmy Olsen and talking about music. Clark likes Metallica. Guess his favorite album!

He almost strikes me as a ride the lightning kind of guy (assuming its a favourite Metallica album) but I'm not too sure.

and Justice for All! I remember he and Superboy talking about it in the story where Kon gets his groove back. It's also where we learn that he and Lois go out dancing all night.

Yep. Huge, gratuitous splash page too with a tiny Legion spacecraft just getting away. According to the LM, the moon had to be destroyed at that point for his personal timeline to work, and also it was a big enough explosion to get Supes back to a couple of hours after he had left.

I always thought that in the next crossover, the Legion might blame Superman for the destruction. Never found out, though.

How can Lois rub Clark's neck? Wouldn't she just sprain her wrists kneading his steely muscles?

And if the answer falls under "man of steel, woman of tissue" dilemma, I officially don't want to know.

I've seen panels of people pinching Superman's cheek, my guess is that his skin is still like ours except it's harder?

Or I guess it's best to just accept it and not wonder too much about it.

I think his flesh (per the version when this was published) is normal human flesh with an energy field that resists mutilation. It can still be squeezed & pressed, just not cut.

Seriously, I think they should steadfastly and resolutely refuse to explain his powers any further than "he can't be hurt, can fly, kryptonite hurts him and the good parts don't work under a non-yellow sun". Explaining it just ends up sounding stupid, so there's nothing to be gained that way. Let the fans come up with endless theories, it makes them happy.

Puts me in mind of that Joe Kelly story where he begins to explain to Batman the exact schematics of how he's able to change into his costume so fast, and then just trails off as they both realise how ineffably silly it sounds.

Maybe it's the fact that I've been studying it a lot this term, but the anatomy in these scans is really solid. More than a lot of current books, for that matter.
