You may recall Betty Brant as J. Jonah Jameson's long-suffering secretary - lately a reporter for the Bugle - and an occasional love interest for Peter Parker before he got serious with MJ. Or, if you were around in 1992....





Yes, the armory. In her closet. Where she keeps an enormous Uzi and a standard-issue 90's Badass Headband.


This was the conclusion of a four-issue arc starring Facade, a villain with powered armor who killed off a few background characters for no good reason and whose identity was never revealed.

I guess that was supposed to set up another appearance later on, but that (contain your shock!) never happened, partly because the arc was very, very bad, and partly because it led directly into the Clone Saga (this issue ends with a teaser to the "Power and Responsibility" arc, where Ben returns), and by the time that was over everybody just wanted to forget that the entire decade had ever happened. But you've got to admit, you're agreeing with him about the outfit.

Oh, '90s X-Men is definitely on the list. The same bulk order that netted me this classic and the WCA suicide special I posted last week also included no less than four issues of that unsung epic, X-CUTIONER'S SONG. Complete with trading cards!

It's interesting that the writer actually seems to have known how very, very '90's this was even as he was writing it. In fact, he had the bad guy COMMENT on how very, very '90's it was. For what it's worth, that's pretty clever.
Also, is anyone else reminded of that one issue of Spider-Girl where she's cornered by bad guys, out of webbing, and grabs a humongous gun from somewhere? "Hey, fellas! GUESS WHO'S GOING GRIM N' GRITTY!"
