Who gives a toss? He doesn't matter in this story at all, and with good reason. As a character, he's absolute Pants.

Anyway, I'm guessing Sexton is actually the latest incarnation of the Joker, having retreated into an appproximation of a Batman-like persona in order to survive a Batman-less world.

Also, anyone notice his similarity in appearance and speech to Leo Quintum of All-Star Superman?

Who gives a toss?

People who care about continuity?

But it doesn't interrupt continuity to have him not appear; it just ignores an annoyingly dull character from an annoyingly dull book.

Please, Dini's better than this pretentious crap.

And another thing, I'm sick and tired of people tossing around the word "pretentious" whenever there's an intelligent, complex storyline. Surely there's nothing wrong with being encouraged to use your brain and, as often happens with Morrison, be reccomended to other authors whom his work mentions? Surely it's better than some of Dini's illogical plot threads, the majority of which require you to actually STOP thinking logically in order to accept them?

Because anyone who doesn't like Morrison just doesn't get him.

That's another silly catch-phrase I hate seeing. I'm not saying you don't 'get' it, I'm in fact telling you the opposite - it's not that hard to get! I'm studying Comparative Lit at the moment, so high-concept stuff like this is bread and butter to me, but even I recognise that you don't have to have read La Bas or The Horla to enjoy it. What exactly is wrong with liking good literature and trying to get other people to do so by referencing it in your work? You don't see people callin Alan Moore 'pretentious' for the numerous nods to previous writers in V For Vendetta .

"For a long time, [DC] said [Son of the Demon] was out of continuity. Now it's just kind of out of continuity. I didn't actually read it before I started writing this. I messed up a lot of details, like Batman wasn't drugged when he was having sex with Talia and it didn't take place in the desert. I was relying on shaky memories. But now we have this new "Superboy punch" continuity [after Superboy Prime attacked the fabric of the universe during Infinite Crisis]. People still don't realize how important that single punch was to cover everyone's ass."

He didn't even read the actual story he was referencing, and he screwed it up.

...And? Why exactly is that important? It's still a good story. Sticking to the continuity doesn't lead to good writing - in point of fact, more often than not it leads to bad writing. Besides, you missed my point entirely. Reading 'Batman and Son' shouldn't mean you automatically have to read 'Son of the Demon' and consider it an alternate chapter in the story, any more than watching A Midsummer Night's Dream should force you to read the story of Theseus conquering the Amazons - in both cases, the brunt of the old story's involvement in the new one is quickly glossed over so the new one can start.

Besides, you don't see Shakespeare keeping his numerous adaptations "in-continuity" with their source material, and Alan Moore had to take quite a few liberties with numerous continuities in LoEG, but it didn't decrease the quality of the story.

I don't think it's the same thing as all. It's not like Morrison's adapting some classical works or whatever. And he admitted he was too lazy to actually read the story and that he had to rely on "shaky memories."

That jaw... Looks a little too squarish to be the Joker's. And the skin is not pasty white. The more I look to the picture and the more I'm convinced it's Bruce, or at least someone entirely different. Plus, he never said that he wasn't Bruce, he just eluded Damian's question [insert mute panel with extra mysterious lightening effect here] Speaking of Damian, I'm strangely getting fond of this little brat. He's so secretly desperate to see his daddy again!

over in Red Robin, he's been forced into a subordinate position with Ra's.

He's at gunpoint with some random assassin guys. I think it's in Red Robin.
