In which Tommy is kinda awesome.

From the Newsarama preview for Siege: Young Avengers. I considered posting the Billy and Teddy bits, but I think Tommy needs more love.

Go Speed. Glad to see more of you by yourself. It feels like every time we see Speed, he's being an extension of someone else. Wiccan's brother, one of Kate's love interests, Molly's playmate. He didn't even get his own issue in the Young Avengers mini.

Yeah, wasn't thrilled they got merged into one issue. I wanted to get more background on both of their home lives. (Where is Tommy living, anyway?)

Do they even use that anymore? Most writers just stick them back into the ruins of the Avengers Mansion.

That's supposedly something Heinberg wanted to deal with.

So until then I guess we assume he's living on the street and none of the other care enough to notice.

I think it's more than that. Has Marvel *ever* shown that it can tell good stories relating around Runners? If they have, someone please educate me. =)

He Who Must Not Be Named did a really good Quicksilver story ages ago in X-Factor.

In a fanfic series I'm reading, he's living with Captain America.

And more!

Don't really know the YA, besides Patriot and that Hulking and Wiccan are gay, but that is a pretty cool moment with this Speed guy, even if his name is a bit on the nose. :)

does this mean tommy is gonna die? i mean he seems to be building to his moment of Aristeia, after which is usually ended by something either an injury, or death.

This does look pretty cool.

But I'm still wary of McKeever writing groups of teens.

while i do admit, McKeever was kinda... harsh to the kids, he DID write good stories, his Rose Stuff was great, as were his character interactions. the ones who came ofter him have been hit and miss, the current writer... well i dont think she's bad... the problems i have is that i find the writing hard to follow so while its not bad, i can't tell if its any good.

say what you want about McKeever, at least he told good stories

Didn't McKeever do Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane?

I thought the rule for McKeever was:

DC Teen Stories: Bad.

Marvel Teen Stories: Good.

again, i always thought that despite the Angst everyone loved McKeever's run, i know i did.... or am i thinking daniel's..... no im pretty sure it was McKeever

D: The applied super-physics nerd in me (best college course ever, analyzing what sort of secondary and tertiary mutations certain metahumans would need) can only think that Tommy better not go too fast or he's going to kill those people from internal organ damage due to the acceleration, or just suffocation.

Uh... I... I mean...

Go Speed go!

They're all Asgardians. A standard-issue Asgardian, if I remember my OHOTMU correctly, is roughly three times as tough as a normal human being: stronger bones, denser tissue, etc.
sir_mikael: (Default)

[personal profile] sir_mikael 2010-04-09 21:20 (UTC)(link)
Heavier too one would presume. But, I'm sure Tommy's got some sort of... temporary hero superstrength like mothers get with kids trapped under cars and all that. :)

[personal profile] sir_mikael 2010-04-09 21:24 (UTC)(link)
Uhm... Maybe secondary mutation (or soul mutation whatever) creates a sheathing field nullifying those effects for Tommy that can extend to whom/whatever he's carrying?

... Just blame Wanda.
nonners: (Default)

[personal profile] nonners 2010-04-14 14:51 (UTC)(link)
iirc, Quicksilver always had to keep to a certain speed to stop from killing people he was carrying. Oh, and they had to hold their breath too. But hey, it's Marvel.
nezchan: Yipes! Get out the way! (bwah!)

Am I the only one (I know, I know...) who's having a hard time figuring out what's going on in those scans? I think he's getting survivors and wounded out of the affected area, but what's with the finishing each others' sentences?
nezchan: yum. (Strange sammich)

[personal profile] nezchan 2010-04-09 19:53 (UTC)(link)
Mmm. I can see that. Problem is, the setup makes it look like it's something significant and that distracts me.

it just means that he is moving so fast that they can barely get two words out before they are brought to safety....

think of it this way. if these people are on the second word of two to three word phrase, and there are like, three there on the second word, hes moving victims at approximately.... three or four a second... thats pretty fast.

I totally agree that it makes perfect sense that it would happen. But the way it's staged makes it look like continuous dialogue and that ends up confusing when you realize it's all different people that are somehow ending each others' sentences.
