Y'know, if we were being realistic a verdict this bizarre would lead to 36 issues all about a long, drawn-out appeals process and people on cable news talking about case precedent and mistrials.

For a high profile case like this, you're right. (Also given the nature of this case, shouldn't it have taken years and years to drag out? Or if Ollie was really upset, couldn't he have plead Guilty?)

However, Judges have made some -really- weird punishments in the past. So I think this could be done. No appeals or anything like that if Ollie didn't want it.

Speaking of Star city, however. Maybe Poison Ivy will move in there after what happened in Brightest Day 0.

From a legal standpoint, I'm sure this is about as realistic as the moon turning into a flock of winged monkeys, but from a storytelling perspective I think it works well enough. It's probably the only way out of the crap pit that was CRY for JUSTIIIIIIIICE! anyhow, short of having Ollie executed or something.

At the very least, it leaves things open for an "Ollie the vagabond" sort of story, which would actually work with him. Note they already carefully cut ties with Dinah, which also points in that direction.

I don't know. Leaving aside the fact that if he'd pleaded guilty in the first place, then it would not have even gone to trial (which is a big count against it)... Ollie murdered a guy who wiped out half a city, and I think it's entirely understandable that a jury wouldn't want to punish him for that (and Ollie's internal monologue regarding the jury's decision is probably spot on).

As for the judge, he was smart enough to realise that if he'd simply said, "Well screw you, I'm going to find him guilty anyway", that would cause everyone *huge* problems later on down the line, for everyone who ever stepped foot in a courtroom from that point on.

The whole storyline is still rubbish but for some of the legal stuff, I can understand why they did what they did.

Btw: You can say what you want, but Barry comes out as nothing less than an omega douche in this whole story.

Plus, I know that Ollie's secret identity has been wobbly at best over the years, so no one can tell me that the whole population of Star City is surprised shitless that he is Green Arrow. That also makes the whole idea that some love him and some hate him unviable. Because if some knew, everybody knew, and that means the whole city simply accepted him all these years. Because it would have need just one single hater to hear about Green Arrow's alter ego to get him to jail.

While Ollie's secret identity was probably the worst kept secret around, I didn't realize it was "public" knowledge yet. After all, the general population of comics tends to be only a few levels of conciousness above amoeba anyway.

Clark at least tries to look different. Ollie has that silly facial hair...

Yeah, regardless of what the jury did or didn't do (and their reaction is entirely understandable given who it was who Ollie offed) -- Ollie would've pleaded guilty from the start, wouldn't he? Therefore it never would've made it to trial in the first place.

Continuing the theme that there is nothing about "Cry For Justice" and everything associated with it that *isn't* incredibly, mind-numbingly stupid.

I refuse to believe that anyone in Star City would even attempt to think of Ollie as a murderer. It's like saying, "You're under arrest for tracking down and murdering Osama bin Laden. You son of a bitch."

Also, I don't think that anyone even has the right to press charges against him. Prometheus was in some kind of pocket dimension, and thus presumably out of Star City's borders. Or so I assumed.

Dinah, Connor and Roy weren't there. It's like they totally abandonned Ollie. The three faces are Mia, Hal and Barry. The art is pretty much horrible, and I wouldn't even know who was who if they weren't named a few panels earlier.

Remember what he did the last time he killed a man? He went on a journey. I'm willing to bet that's exactly what's gonna happen, especially now that there's nothing left for him. He's going to live like a savage in some jungle, chase more girls because he misses his wife, find out that he has fathered another kid. And later, when Hal asks him to come back, Dinah will forgive him, and they will live happily ever after until he screws up again.
