So there was this one time G.I. Joe and Transformers crossed over. THIS. IS. THAT. TIME.

Unfortunately, this is after the book had started to get pretty silly and random, and gotten some nasty 90s art. Just check out this context.

I love how, though the dialogue would suggest that the urbane, sophisticated pair of Destro and Baroness are quietly taking out the guards, the art gives them generic 90s spittle-rage. But anyway, holding the levers halfway voids the warranty, so...

Now that is seriously random. It's almost more like a joke than a basis for a crossover. So Megatron shows up... made out of Play-Doh... with some bent, colored paperclips sticking out of him... ?

Naturally, they form an alliance of convenience which leads to lots of back-biting and general evil. The most memorable part?

Ummm... yeah... (Does he have a robot codpiece?)

And the only one I liked was Ancient Relics, in the Transformers UK comic, where it was 'Action Force' not GI Joe, who discovered the unhinged Megatron clone in the sewer system of London.

One of the only comics I can recall that gave a bit of character development to Blades, and had more of Simon Furman's version of Grimlock, plus lovely Geoff Senior artwork.

Galvatron is even worse in that respect. You can transform him to having wang slightly over a foot long and since he makes sounds as well, you can shift the sound setting to one that sounds like a high pitched (or low pitched) cry of enjoyment. It was one of those Beavis and Butthead like middle school moments.

I heard there was a shot of Baroness riding Optimus Prime that I would like to see.

Eh? It's not anime, if that's what you mean.

(And, frankly, the cartoon is not very good to start with.)

The G1 cartoon is, in fact, pretty horrible.

There are some bright spots, but, as a whole, the series was pretty wretched.

I actually consider it one of those 'so bad it's....well, not good, but entertaining.' The animation errors crack me up.

Cybertron was fairly vacuous, but had some pretty transformations and designs. And this guy showing up in the last episode after 52 episodes of being, well, a street light, was hilarious!

Also, Fire Convoy in CarRobot (Sorry... Optimus Prime in Robots in Disguise) was the best redesign of Optimus in YEARS! :)

I just remember watching it when I was in high school. I woke up at 6 every morning and it would always be on and I'd watch it as I got dressed. The Voice acting was bad, the animation was like a video game and they still did that awkward "everyone laughs at the end as the camera pans out" thing.

Good lord

That's Signal Lancer. Throughout Cybertron we'd cut back to two of the still in hiding Autobots, one was a set of traffic lights, the other was a payphone, who would make some comment or other about the ongoing plot. In the final episode when they are summoned home to Cybertron, Signal Lancer suddenly transformers and heads off to the "great new destiny" that awaits him. The payphone seems to like his current life and stays put.

if nothing else, armada had that pretty brutal prime/megatron fight at the end

megatron slicing a bisecting surface gash in prime with a concealed knife?

prime throwing a blown off wheel into megatron's cannon?

good times.

That was good. As a fight, it might even be better than the one in the movie, even if it didn't quite have the emotional dramatic build-up and impact.

Me too. I watch it every week on the retro cartoon channel, even though I think it's awful, because it's entertaining in its awfulness. I'm usually doing something else, so I don't see many of the animation errors, but the incoherent plots, and the 'wait, what?' dialogue is pretty priceless.

Woo! Dr. Biggles-Jones! (bottom right panel, last page)

This was the comic that reconfigured Megatron into a tank, by the way.

... and is the first shot of that building an Escher design? The one with the waterfall around it?

~Cobra Commander and Megatron both stand over the wrecked remains of Joe Headquaters and Optimus Prime~

"Hahahahah finally I have destroyed all those AUTO...NOTS!!!! HAHAHAHA"

"(God I fucking hate those quips) Yes, and finally all the Joes are dead!"

~awkward silence~

"Uh...so"

"Um...yeah...so..."

"Wanna go out?"

~Cobra's eyes widen~

Sometimes the snow comes down in June
Sometimes the sun goes 'round the moon
I see the passion in your eyes
Sometimes it's all a big surprise

"I...I thought you'd never ask."

~their hands touch~

And now we're standing face to face
Isn't this world a crazy place
Just when I thought our chance had passed
You go and save the best for last

Megatron spoke a little too much like a robot here.

On the other hand, the art was a lot better than the G2 comic tended to give us, so...
