Eight solicitations for Marvel in July, including the Young Avengers, mythic heroes, and various X-Men.

Full solicitations are here:

AVENGERS: THE CHILDREN'S CRUSADE #1 (of 9)
Written by ALLAN HEINBERG
Pencils & Cover by JIM CHEUNG
Women of Marvel Variant by JELENA-KEVIC DJURDJEVIC
The Young Avengers return in an epic, bi-monthly Marvel maxi-series by series creators Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung. When Wiccan's reality-altering powers begin to rival those of the Scarlet Witch, the young hero sets out on a quest to find her that spans the Marvel Universe and pits Wiccan against both the Avengers and the Young Avengers. But will Wiccan's desire to solve the mystery of his parentage be his salvation or his undoing? This self-contained Marvel maxi-series reintroduces and redefines the Young Avengers and the Scarlet Witch for the Heroic Age and is essential reading for any Avengers fan.

Your legs are MIA, Kate.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #608
Written by ED BRUBAKER
Penciled by BUTCH GUICE
Cover by MARKO DJURDJEVIC
NOMAD backup by SEAN MCKEEVER & FILIPE ANDRADE
Baron Zemo takes his battle against the new Captain America to a new and terrifying level. And neither Bucky Barnes, or the readers will believe Zemo's last page revelation! By the senses-shattering team of Ed Brubaker and Butch Guice!

I'm so glad that Djurdjevic is doing the covers for this series now. Even Epting's covers were generally not up to the standard of its interiors.

DAREDEVIL #508
Written by ANDY DIGGLE & ANTONY JOHNSTON
Penciled by ROBERTO DE LA TORRE
Cover by JOHN CASSADAY
SHADOWLAND Tie-in
Matt Murdock has long played judge and jury to criminals as Daredevil, but has he now become executioner as well?!
SHADOWLAND takes over Daredevil and his friends aren’t about to stand by and lose him on the path he seems destined for. A major player joins the battle as Hell’s Kitchen is about to live up to its name once more!

Hey, Bullseye! Long time, no thrash (seriously, it must be three or four years by now). I also hope we get to see him interact with Lady B.

FANTASTIC FOUR #581
Written by JONATHAN HICKMAN
Penciled by NEIL EDWARDS
Cover by ALAN DAVIS
The first of a two-part story featuring the return of Nathaniel Richards. Follow us as he jumps through time back to the college years of Reed, Ben and Victor Von Doom and recruits them for an impossible mission in the future.

There's another old plot point I wasn't expecting to see again (Nathaniel Richards is so confusing a character that using him can cause problems, but Hickman's done well so far) - plus, that's a neat idea for a teamup.

HEROIC AGE: PRINCE OF POWER #3 (of 4)
Written by GREG PAK & FRED VAN LENTE
Penciled by REILLY BROWN
Cover by CARLO PAGULAYAN
It's a race against time -- and eternity! -- as the Mighty Thor and Amadeus Cho try to beat the nefarious PANTHEON to all the pieces of The Ultimate Boon! The next stop on their mythological mystery tour is the realm of the ancient Egyptian gods -- and a no holds barred slugfest with SEKHMET, Goddess of Destruction! But once the sand settles, will the Prince of Power continue to side with the God of Thunder -- or with humanity? Join the New York Time Bestselling authors of INCREDIBLE HERCULES as they continue the tale of Herc’s former protégé!

UNCANNY X-MEN: THE HEROIC AGE #1
Written by MATT FRACTION
Penciled by WHILCE PORTACIO, JAMIE MCKELVIE & STEVEN SANDERS
Cover by MARK BROOKS
Hot on the heels of SECOND COMING, see how the X-Men fit into the Marvel Universe as a whole. Three stories by Matt
Fraction and artists Whilce Portacio (UNCANNY X-MEN), Jamie McKelvie (SIEGE: LOKI) and Steven Sanders (S.W.O.R.D.) taking you all around the Marvel Universe!

Hope meets Molly - heh.

THOR AND THE WARRIORS FOUR #4 (of 4)
Written by ALEX ZALBEN
Pencils & Cover by GURIHIRU
Loki: triumphant! Thor: defeated! Power Pack: no more! Exclamations: And questions? Will Power Pack be able to save the life of their grandmother, or will the world be destroyed first? All this, plus a guest appearance by The Pet Avengers, and the moment you didn’t know you were waiting your whole life for: The League of Thors! AND the final chapter of Colleen Coover’s Hercules/Power Pack cross-over. An issue so big, so funny, so awesome, that critics are saying, “This solicit was actually written before the first issue came out, so there’s no press quotes yet!”

I'll be really interested to see how his will be handled, because I can't imagine them using magic to save their grandmother, and that's kind of a depressing conclusion.

UNCANNY X-MEN #526
Written by MATT FRACTION
Penciled by WHILCE PORTACIO
Cover by TERRY DODSON
“THE FIVE LIGHTS”
After the events of SECOND COMING, the X-Men’s world has changed. We can’t tell you much without spoiling the crossover, but here are some words to whet your appetite: Hope, Emma, Namor, Sebastian Shaw. Classic X-Men artist Whilce Portacio is back again for this story-arc of epic proportions!

Huh, I'd almost forgotten about that secret, but Namor's going to be rather annoyed. Also, seems clear that Emma makes it out of "Second Coming" okay.

I'm disappointed that it's only four issues.

UNLESS Herc comes back in issue #4. And then He and Amadeus begin their bromance anew. Then it'd be awesome.

Yes! But you forgot the best one! Avengers #3 guest staring the Amazing Spider-Girl!

I cannot wait!

skalja: Ultimate Spider-Woman posing like a BAMF (marvel: patsy walker glamour)
From: [personal profile] skalja
They're calling her that, but it looks like she's not the one we know from Spider-Girl. Totally different, midriff-baring (ugh!) costume.

Or worse, she might be an older version of the Spider-Girl we know -- as if Mayday would ever wear that outfit.

It's either April or Millarverse. I refuse to accept that May could have taste that bad.

I think this may be the first time all seven Young Avengers have ever been on a cover together.

I will take back (almost) everything bad I said about the last run if it will give us back a Runaways book so we can stop seeing them forced apart so they individual members can cameo in books they are vaugely related to like this and Karolina's apearances in SWORD.

. . . wait, is that what happened at the end?

From: [personal profile] darkblade
No it ended with Chase going after a girl who looks exactly like Gert and then getting run over by a guy who looks exactly like he did back in volume one in a white van like he used to have and with everyone else flying off in a vaugely defined direction in a newer version of the Leapfrog.

Yeah that was a very bad spot to end a run. They could have made something from that but instead it just was pure WTF.

THAT WAS THE ENDING?

I saw that, I just assumed that there was more afterwards. Because that is not an ending.

Thats the ending until someone steps up and writes something new.

That's no ending, it's a space station!

Yeah, it was pretty obvious that the scene was not meant to be the ending. Immonen quite obviously had much, much more in mind, but the execs cut her run painfully short - it was only four issues!
flidgetjerome: Hark, a Vagrant #328 (Default)
From: [personal profile] flidgetjerome
You know, while everyone I knew had given up on that title a couple of issues before (pro-tip: don't kill-off the pet dinosaur-puppy, man, just don't) that's really a weird executive decision to take on a series that's known for selling strongly in trade form.

Agreed.

nefrekeptah: (yay)
From: [personal profile] nefrekeptah
What's really frustrating is that the last issue ended on a MASSIVE CLIFFHANGER that would have been wonderful as a lead in to the next issue, but since there was no next issue, it's now a huge obstacle to them appearing anywhere else - you can't have them show up now without the big question, "Isn't one of your guys in a coma?" hanging over everyone's head.

Also, I really only picked up SWORD because I heard Karolina was making a guest appearance. The fact that the book was good was just a happy coincidence.

Of course her guest apearances were essentially background cameos and one reference to a potential plot point that will never be followed up on because SWORD was canceled too.

BKV needs to come back and save his babies, or at least get Whedon on it again.

But it was a good cameo; she was even one of the people with speaking lines.

I don't care who it is, as long as they genuinely care about the characters. Yost was good on the book; why don't you get him on the book?

Your legs are MIA, Kate.

I had a hard time trying to figure out what that flesh-shaped wedge was beneath/between Wiccan and Patriot's arms, on Wolverine's mask, until I figured out that it was Kate's stomach, as if she's being born out of Logan's skull, which would make her Athena and Logan Zeus. Mythic, indeed.

I just hope he's not going back to his old "ZOMG HATE CAP SO MUCH" ways as a villain -- post-Thunderbolts Zemo was interesting as a guy who very much operated in a grey area, doing whatever HE thought was best regardless of the moral and societal implications.

Maybe it was one Doom too many - that's kinda his shtick, isn't it?

I mean, I think Zemo is at his most interesting now, as is; I'm just trying to see what the writer's spin on it might be.

I am annoyed by Zemo being evil again.

But at the same time, if he's going after Bucky it might be something personal, which means he could be used as a semi-decent guy elsewhere.

Whilce Portatio is still alive?!
