The day Lois got shot
Apr. 24th, 2010 05:39 am
This begins with Clark being severely wounded by an army of supervillains. He's injected with liquid kryptonite, goes into cardiac arrest in some hospital, then return to battle immediately after being defibrillated. When the whole thing is finally over, Lana Lang offers to take care of him, because Lois is away covering the Umec war.

They go to the kitchen, and have a little chat about life, kids, and the reason why Lois is a bad wife.

It seems like a bad case of "i-am-trying-to-destroy-your-marriag

While Lana is blaming Lois for her selfishness, our favorite reporter is busy saving someone's life in the middle of a raging war. At the other side of the planet, Clark is dealing with some villain when he hears the gunshot. He races to catch her before she falls.

He takes her to a camp where he powerlessly watches as she's taken to surgery. Batman calls Doctor Mid-Nite for help.

Absolutely none whatsoever...

And although the art's a little iffy, Clark covering Lois with his cape is a nice touch.
And way to go on the secret identity thing, Clark.

Cool scene with Pieter, though.

I did however like how when Kal was in the hospital, he had Diana and Conner taking turns looking out for him although their conversation about him was kind of weird, if I remember it was Kon asking Diana if she loved Clark.

Okay, rant over. Now onto the positive stuff. One of the things I absolutely adore is how Clark will NEVER be swayed away from Lois. Seriously, there are so many times where I've seen scenes of him talking about her like she's some goddess and he's the luckiest guy in the universe to have her. And the adorable thing is, HE MEANS IT. I mean, this is the guy that spent a thousand years stuck with Wonder Woman, and still all he could think of was Lois. So even though I don't like that scene with Lana and think Clark should have kicked her out a lot earlier, I do like how he isn't swayed by the things Lana is saying and blatantly tells her that he's ALWAYS loved Lois, and that's all that matters.
Other stuff I liked:
Clark being so concerned for Lois that he basically could have completely blown his secret identity by saving her.
Supes wrapping up Lois in the cape.
As mentioned above in another post, the poor doctor sweating bullets when he realizes that Lois might be Superman's girlfriend.
Batman referring to Lois as "one of ours". Aww.
The hand holding at the end with the, "I'll NEVER leave you".

Agreed. That was a beautiful touch. She's Lois frickin' Lane. Of course she's one of theirs ^_^.
I also agree wholeheartedly on the Clark/Lois dynamic. It works, and it's such an amazing thing to watch.
Also, this.
"I mean, switch it around and imagine a guy saying that to a woman. It's just...creepy."
Exactly. "If you were unconscious, I'd probably try to have sex with you" is *not* a way to endear yourself to the readers, or other characters.

The scenes sort of clash, because the Lana bits are by Austen--who hates Lois--and the rest is by Rucka who writes an excellent Lois.

Lana loved Clark growing up? Doesn't mesh with my fanon. I don't mind Lana being a little conniving and still carrying a torch for Superman, but I don't like the idea that she would try to sink the Lois & Clark ship. Also, her reason for leaving Pete just sucks.
Clark hearing a gunshot from hundreds of gunshots going on every minute around the world. Sound goes - uh, google, help me out here - 760 miles an hour. Come on, if he could monitor all the sounds all over the world, he would have to sleep in a sensory deprivation tank like Matt Murdock. Put a better lampshade on that, please.
A bullet wouldn't ricochet off of a bone if it had the power to pass all the way through. Well, a normal human bone, anyway.
Loved:
Lois was pretty cool here. Lois, wait! You're not trained, you don't have any weapons or protection, your job is to -- ok, then! Good luck, you nut!
The League instantly mobilizing for one of their own. Especially Diana being right there outside the door, and she didn't announce that she was there. If something comes up in Metropolis, J'onn's going to let Diana know, she'll take care of it, and Clark will only find out days later that anything happened.

Sidenote: These days, I play a Game called "Dr. Midnight or Red Robin" in which I try to figure who's supposed to be in what book (I lost on that Power Girl issue from a few months ago since I kept thinking "What's Tim doing in that book?") *sigh*

Nice of her not to mention that her people have a purple ray that can heal any injury. In fact, isn't/shouldn't there be one built into the Watchtower? I get that she doesn't trust Man's World not to turn it into a death-ray, but if there's anyone who's shown they can handle ridiculous power (and could really use having any injury healed), isn't it her teammates?

(Honestly that thing is such a problem. They really need to say it works by amplifying the magical innate improved constitution and healing of an amazon, or something, so we have an actual legit reason why it's only useful to amazons and don't need to keep conveniently forgetting it or saying it's a super-high-tech-cures-anything-except AIDS, cancer, paralysis, or in fact anything beyond what we can deal with via widespread real-world human technology.)

Not realistic for Lana, mind, but hey.

Brilliant, just pure brilliance. This is what I look for in comic books: crazy, non-powered heroes/heroines trying to save lives, selfless, automatically-supporting teammates, dedicated, loving spouses...this needs to be condensed into packaged form and sent in the hundreds to the Titans.
