PG's boob window? It's empowering or a symbol placeholder or something.
Helena's bare abs? She worked out a lot.
Wonder Woman's whole ensemble?

It has been explained before with the Diana Trevor story, though I guess a tip of the hat to a woman who gave her life to aid them wasn't good enough. Really drilling that in with Hippolyta wearing the flag in the scene right before this yet dropping the connection in favor of some coincidental weather and a few stars that might be Cassiopeia.
For a moment there I almost thought this was closer to the present day, ignoring the sudden break in the story, and they might actually be trashing the swim suit in favor of something less ridiculous.
Silly, optimism. Sensible clothing is for kids* (and men).
*If you know of something that contradicts this, please don't tell me. I don't want to know.

Date: 2010-04-26 09:28 pm (UTC)But the lengths you go to to be offended are sometimes quite extreme.

Date: 2010-04-26 09:36 pm (UTC)Also... that's cheap ad hominem and you know it. Attack me, dismiss my arguments as overwrought and emotional - despite the fact that I haven't even broken out the caps or sworn once - and totally ignore the substance of anything I'm saying? If you don't agree that that message is there, just say that you don't agree that message is there. There's really no need to get hostile about it, I haven't cast a single aspersion on you here, or ever anywhere, in fact.

But here's the thing. It's not an even debate. It's not that you and I read the same thing differently, that's always fine, and to be expected. But it's not that I "don't agree that the message is there," I know for a FACT it's not there. I wrote the thing, I am aware of the concept you are presenting, and it's absolutely
not a part of this even remotely.
It's a Queen who wants an ambassador rather than someone who looks like a warrior. To equate a woman who is blamed for being raped because she wore the wrong clothing to a woman who walks around a city with a SWORD is just pure silliness.
You know I have supported your writing for a long time. But some of the accusations you have made lately have been so far afield that I feel quite justified in pointing out their inaccuracy. It has nothing to do with my affection for you or my liking of your writing. Nothing emotional about it.

Date: 2010-04-26 11:30 pm (UTC)I will of course abide by your decision but this doesn't seem like a big deal. It's just spirited discussion, isn't it?
Re: Thread Freeze!
Date: 2010-04-27 01:31 am (UTC)I should also point out that accusing other members of 'trying to be offended' is not something that goes over well here, as it's a tactic that's used to dismiss even reasonable objections to offensive material.

Date: 2010-04-27 08:22 am (UTC)There is nothing in that scene that is analogous to "she asked for it," as an excuse. It's really not worth defending.
