Just another thing, does anyone feel insanely bad for Hope? Everytime I see her, I just want to hug her. I mean, she's been hunted since she was a baby and has been forced to jump to different times just to survive, living on rats and basically not even having a home the whole time. And she's being raised by Cable to be this soldier and is having no chance at all to be a "normal" girl. It made me so sad when they showed her in that store staring at the hair brush set and how she reacted to seeing an actual bed in the hotel room. And now that she's with the X-Men, she's STILL being hunted and people are being killed all around her, just because everyone thinks she is going to be this mutant messiah. And that's another thing. Cyclops and a bunch of others expect her to be this savior of mutants. Way to dump a crapload of responsibility onto a freaking teenager's shoulders.

the scene last issue with the hair barrets and comb made me feel that way about her :( and the icon above :)

Well, to be fair, Cyclops and the other original X-men do know what it's like to be a teen and have saving the world level responibility. They were recruited as teens themselves, after all. But that just raises the question of whether it's worse for a teen to have a normal life and then have it all taken away to go save the world, or to have a dangerous life from the beginning but have the constant presence of people who will help (Cable and now the X-Men).

Yeah, but all the other X-Men chose to be on the team and they already had their powers. Hope just grew up in a war zone with everyone trying to kill her so she had no choice but to basically fight or die. She's lived her whole life with people trying to kill her because of her being a mutant and her powers have just started manifesting now. I know the other X-Men have had hard lives, but most of them haven't spent their entire life being hunted and none of them have had the weight of the future of the mutant race put on their shoulders like Hope has. Cyclops and a lot of others thinks that's she's going to save the mutant race somehow, and they have no reason to think this beside the fact that she's a mutant that has been born since M-Day and that she showed a huge power signature when she was born.

As for being in danger but having the X-Men around, that's all well and good, but I just think that it's very sad that she has to watch people like Kurt and others be murdered all for her sake. Basically, I think she just has a very sad life. She has insane expectations to live up to. What happens if she doesn't/can't live up to them?

Oh, I'm certainly nt trying to argue that either are a good situation. I'm just saying that at least Hope doesn't really know what she's missing. If she had lived a normal life until now and then got called for the whole save the mutants destiny thing, it would be much more painful and traumatising. As it is, she's used to the danger, and it much more likely to be able to react and survive.

Good point about all the expectations piled up on her. I hadn't really thought of that.

Yeah, I mean it's good in a way that she has Cable around training her how to take care of herself and all, because she would be dead like a hundred times by now if he hadn't been around, but like I said before, it's just sad that she HAS to live that way, watching her back all the time. It's going to suck even more for her since I have a feeling that something very bad is going to happen to Cable before this is all over, too.

But yes, I agree with you that it's good that she's had all this training and gotten used to it instead of living a somewhat normal life and then having all hell break loose around her.

Not to mention that X-Men have a pretty crap track record of doing right by the kids under their care these days.
