That sounds a little heteronormative. Why not just show two daddies as a perfectly normal thing, even when they're on the outs with each other?

Because DC doesn't want to get outraged letters from conservative parents saying that they're warping the minds of their precious little darlings, and threatening to reinstate the Wertham-era comic book burnings? I mean, face it, these are still hot-button issues in a LOT of places, and I don't blame DC for not wanting to provoke the loonies. It's in their best interests to tiptoe around those sorts of subjects.
