The results are in from their contest to redo Canary's costume.

Project Rooftop has been running a contest for a redesign of Black Canary's outfit. Which, God knows,is badly needed. Here's the winner you can see all of the submissions here.

What do you think? I liked a few of the others better. Certainly this has some design merits. But if given the opportunity, I say get rid of the bare legs. Like this one:

I pretty much hate any costume with bare legs. I don't even like bare arms, myself. But it has a nice line.

The problem with the second one is that there's an arrow pointing at her vagina. Of course, I mostly like her JLI era costume, so don't take my judgement as perfect.

I like her costume when she does the tough biker chick thing with the leather jacket and big boots. The only thing I would change would be to give her pants but everything else is hot ;)

I don't think any of those are really better than her iconic outfit. Maybe if one of them gave her pants? And then didn't look like a generic "I fight crime, la!" outfit?

Semi-agreed. My only problem (and to be fair, it's a big one) with the iconic costume is Dinah's lack of pants. If it had pants, I'd adore it.

I think a lot of the submissions would work almost as well, though. But I'm not a fan of the winner, even though I love Oxboxer's art. (I think Dinah's costume should've been in the style of the Robin redesigns.)

Pants and maybe some kind of fishnet-looking thing on her otherwise bare arms. You could handwave it as some Plotinium armor. I know, out there, but it'd keep that fishnet=Canary easy identification while not being objectifying.

I think the winner would be good for an original superhero. I looove the art style and design sense though. The cape is the major thing that bugs me. It's not practical at all. It looks like wind resistance would hold you back a bit while running and the tails would just go flying off to the sides. Then again, I suppose that goes for any cape, but it just seems really noticeable here.

I love how each entry has a ton of style it, some really great art here. Except the stripper-esque one where her feet are going the opposite direction from her knees and her right leg is being cut off by her costume. Ouch.

I actually liked the Black Canary logo, jacket, and lines of Barbara Tarr's "stripper-esque" one. If the boots were actually calf-high and practical and the whole outfit less skanky, I'd love it even more.

What about the logo and jacket from the Tarr design, the boots from MacDonald's, Sokol's gloves all on the winning design?

Wow, I love it! It's so tomboyish and cute. If Dinah ever hands over the mantle, this version of Canary would be neat. Could be improved with shorts though.

I adore the winning costume to PIECES despite the fact that it has several elements that I normally abhor (the bare legs, the heels).

I really don't see what's wrong with her usual outfit. I mean, it's a classic - she looks tough AND sexy; what's wrong with that? Personally, I have no problem with heroines wearing sexy outfits, just not ones that are functionally ridiculous and all-too-obviously designed solely for titillation value. Sure, her legs probably get a little cold from time to time, but otherwise, her costume is perfectly functional - and practical, too, because she's a martial artist; she needs her legs free to make high kicks. I honestly don't see anything wrong with giving the cheesecake fans a bit of a thrill, as long as the character herself is not solely an excuse for cheesecake - if she's a great character, and she is, then who cares?

I actually really like the third one, with all the yellow. It is very Dinah!
Now, if I'd gotten a chance to do one myself, I'd have gone similar to it, actually, but trade in the sleeves for pants and make it a bright blue. Been thinking about it since I first read the results, and really ought to draw it.

What's wrong with her modern costume? Sure it's swimsuit-y, but BC has always had a "strong and sexy" motif. Oh well, of the designs posted, the winner is actually my least favorite, right behind the chicken-suit. I like the ones that tried variations on her coat, especially the double-breasted design. It looks like something someone could actually wear and not feel self-conscious.

I also like the knee-pads.
