IGN has the preview for number #1 of the new series. We have not one, but two flagship characters..... not where they are supposed to be. One image of the preview behind the cut.

Spidey has just learned something and returns home to think about it.

Characters thrown out of time into the distant past? What a novel idea!

Liking the art, and liking seeing Peter the scientist making the best of the situation.

And that woman in the sculptures on the other pages of preview.... Sister Askani of the Askani from Cable's future?

If this was what Spider-Man always looked like, I would..

..Well I'd be pleased I guess. I still wouldn't buy his books.

But I'm putting this on my When I Am Rich list.

But it wasn't the meteor that killed dinosaurs in 616. It was Thor's hammer being hammered into being. It was the fallout from Demogorge beating Set. It was That Which Endures deciding that they weren't a viable host. Pick one, all have been used.

Yeah, and I think I'm missing a few to boot.

Though, now that I checked on my memory it wasn't actually Thor's hammer being made that caused it, rather than the construction of the forge that was used to make the hammer. Eh.

He does look rather attractive. Now...if he just removed his pants...I'd buy the issue.

Okay, I like this WAY better than "sitcom plus sexual harrassment plus casual rasicm" that they were doing.

Message to brain trust: Most people don't care about "relatable" characters so much as a good story.

I'm guessing those are latin names on the cages? Because I'm a trained biologist and barely know anything outside my own (very narrow) field of expertise. Good to know that a physicist/chemist/whateverhereallyis managed to remember all the latin names of species that have been extinct for millions of years.

Unless he made the shit up, then kudos, I totally would as well.

It just show that he likes Primeval. Guess he didn't lose all sense in the deal with the devil.

Okay, I cannot stop laughing at poor Peter's expression here. (Not that I can blame him.) Kudos, Mr. Kubert!

ETA: Also, I realize that there will NEVER be a sci-fi story that addresses this properly and I had no such expectations for this comic, either, but as a pedant I feel obliged to point out that Peter shouldn't be able to breathe in the atmosphere of 65 million years ago.

He "does whatever a spider can" and there were spiders back then. Therefore he can breathe the radically different atmostsphere.

Oddly enough, this is how I envisioned Peter's cover identity while working with Black Widow in The Man from S.H.I.E.L.D.. Russian super-hood called the Black Spider. There's a part where they're nearly killed by a car bomb and he quips, "heh, in Soviet Russia, bomb explodes you." "Shut. Up."

...God I wish I could write that.

Why isn't Jason Aaron writing EVERYTHING full-time? His work with Marvel has been pure gold.
