Straw in a Hurricane
May. 1st, 2010 08:29 pmI've been meaning to post this one for a while. There were some arcs back in the early issues of Wally's debut as Flash that were big into explaining, or attempting to explain, a lot of how Wally's powers worked and how he made his suit and other fun stuff like that. Having never read much more than a few panels here and there of Barry's first run, this was especially interesting to me.
A little context first. A few issues previous to this, Wally lost his powers thanks to a DCU-wide event. In this issue, Drs Tina and Jerry McGee and Mason Trollbridge were working to get Wally's powers back by attempting to recreate the mix of chemicals/lightning charge that first gave him his powers. They think they have it and Wally goes to run and we get one of my favourite scenes:

I love the framing of this, how they get Lois typing up her story as the narration. And I love the look at just how destructive powers like this can be. The trail we see in the last scan winds up spanning across the country, with some unexplained gaps, before ending in a miles wide crater in New Mexico.

Yup :)
I love how they figured that out too. Such a nice build up to it with the road trip and showing the pure destruction Wally created.

And the following issues are just awesome. You know they can't have killed Wally, but at the same time, you're almost on the edge of your seat with it.
