Batgirl 2: the Good Samaritan
May. 6th, 2010 06:42 pm The story begins with a woman being attacked in an alley, and a man deciding to step in.

The men don't take kindly to this, and are just about to shoot John when Cass shows up and beats the tar out of them. Cass saw that the guy had at least attempted to save the woman though, and gives him a kiss on the cheek after handing him back his groceries.
Naturally, seeing someone being good without needing to be puts Cass into a good mood considering the standard Gotham attitude. Babs notices her being rather chipper and says she should get a large vocabulary to say why.
This is Cass' reaction,

Turns out that the besuited man who was attacking the woman is the son of a powerful Gotham mob boss, and that he kidnapped John to teach him a lesson about sticking his nose in other people's business.
An incredibly pissed off Cass finds out that the mob boss has John hidden in an abandoned prison that's located on an island off of Gotham's coast. She swims the two or so miles to get there, and breaks him out of his cell.
Unfortunately, it seems that the gangsters have really worked him over, and he's dying even before Cass arrives,

Naturally, this enrages Cass still further, so she beats up the entire gang, including the car that the mob boss happened to be riding in. The mob boss reappears later when he arranges a hit on Cass, but that doesn't go well for him.
Cass takes the note to John's wife,

Seeing what an effect a simple note has on John's wife, Cass attempts to write one herself, which baffles Babs as she has no idea what Cass is up to.

Cass was a character capable of such growth and when drawn rightly (as in these scans) her costume could be downright terrifying to the unsuspecting- even more so than Robin, Nightwing or the 2 other Batgirls. Now she is apparently no longer important enough to have even other characters mention her in passing.

Date: 2010-05-07 02:43 am (UTC)This post was like a fluffy cotton candy ball of happiness before the gut-punch of reality that Cass has now been trampled into a dark patch of nothing in the DC universe.
Thanks for posting, though. The fluffy ball is so worth the punch in the stomach!

Date: 2010-05-07 11:00 pm (UTC)When they're hunting for Catwoman, after the shooting of Jim Gordon, Cass has a piece of paper that has a drawing of a cat, with 'woman' written below it, that she's showing to the bad guy she's interrogating.
It didn't make sense, because if someone could write 'woman' for her, then they could certainly have written 'cat' as well. Still, it was funny.
