I'd like to say (based on Oracle's words) that Calculator should have targeted Misfit instead (i.e. a daughter for a daughter) which would have made more sense as a plot IMO but since according to Miller, Charlie (and Cass) apparently never factor into Bab's mind at all, Calculator could go after them and Barbara could care less (now that she has Steph and Wendy to mentor). That's just how the "Batgirl" version of Barbara seems IMO.

Yeah, I know. I'm reaching. But how is it we're supposed to believe Wendy (!) is so important to Babs but two teenage girls who actually looked on her as a surrogate parent are not. Really?

Can someone explain why Marvin and Wendy are actually canon? Was there really a lack of insanely annoying fuckers that they had to import?

Given the fact that shortly after first appearing they had Marvin and Wendy mauled (on-panel) by an monstrous version of Wonder Dog and Marvin killed off and Wendy crippled for life, I personally think this is one of those things where they were just "created" in the DCU so DC execs could then get off on destroying them as gruesomely as possible.

No matter how annoying the cartoon versions were, I think what was done and the manner it was done (for those have seen the issue in question of TT) was tasteless and over-the-top - just like most of DC's killing of kids these days (for instance, fresh from offing Lian Harper, how many thousands more kids were murdered when DC - and James Robinson, again - just blew up New Krypton and killed almost everyone on it).

I know right? What was the point of the last 2 years of story (including the whole World of New Krypton series) if they were just going to kill off almost every single one of them (except Zod's small invasion force - which I doubt has any kids or old people). Even Allura is dead. And of course it was a war instigated by Earth/Sam Lane who, with the help of Luthor, has now commited genoicide against a whole species (let alone nation/planet). Are we supposed to root against Zod here? WTF?

And we're supposed to believe Kara is just going to join Robinson's Justice League of AMERICA (after the US military just destroyed everyone/thing she loved) and be a hero for Earth with no problems at all? Or will Superman for once in his life will be actually angry with his home planet? But no, Luthor who planted the bomb gets away with a presidential pardon, Sam Lane will probably be the only Earth "villian" punished, and we can look forward to Lex and Clark trading quips again in a few months as if Lex just hadn't nuked Clark's aunt and what remained of his native people. And if people complain, DC will probably just go (as they did with Lian) - "Well if we got you angry/upset the story worked". *ugh*

My feelings exactly. Kara was not raised on Earth like Clark was. She should not feel the same loyalty (especially after they've outright murdered both her parents and ALL her people, all this AFTER making her a hunted outlaw herself) but apparently going by solicits she'll be back super-heroing on Earth in a few issues and according to Robinson, she'll be a permanent member of the JLA (the team that protects "America" - the same country responsible for Mommy and Daddy being targeted for death and her all friends being offed as well). I know it's comics, but c'mon, it strains credibility. She should want NOTHING to do with Earth after this for a long time.

So wait-she ditches kids who see her as a parental figure for Wendy? I guess this is typical of the DCU, where one's villain status is dependent on either blood, being ugly, or being Always Chaotic Evil and where the heroes Mind-Wipe people to cover their bad deeds and don't give a shit about killing Medusa but *do* about Maxwell Lord.

Just figured the Oracle would be a *bit* less of a dick than the other heroes, but alas.....

And this is the problem I've had with how Miller's been writing Barbara since Issue #1. I can't wait till Gail takes the character over.

And for that matter, it reminds me of the bit in the Teen Titans cartoon. The Titans see the End of the World and face a literal Physical God version of Satan but the next day they all (including Raven) are sane? Huh? At least Wolfman showed some characters with actual emotions.....

You have a point...and it still didn't make reasonable sense in that situation either.

And I do think there is a difference in a 2-3 hour movie where action moves quickly and a serialized monthly story where you actually have some character development instead of having Supergirl go right back to Earth as if nothing had happened.

So in several pages, they can reference other pointless issues that barely connect to the plot, but Millar can't explain where Misfit and Cass are, can't be bothered to show Steph's origin or motivation and apparently can't create an original plot for Oracle.

...why do people like this series?

The Misfit thing bothers me, but Gail Simone has said that she will be in BoP so that will be cleared up very soon. As far as Cass, who knows what editorial has told him? If you have fuzzy Bat family in Red Robin and no mention of Cass and a blackout on the character from Morrison, I hardly think Miller should be singled out for not using her.

I don't get what you are saying about Steph's origin or motivation. I think her motivation has been clear from issue one and as far as her origin, for a first year I think was Spoiler/now Batgirl is appropriate.

They haven't brought up Steph's Dad Cluemaster this entire series. It's a confusing ommission, IMO.

Because as I noted, Luke didn't even cry over *his* family.

If Star Wars could have Mark Hamill act like more than a bump on a log over *Obi Wan Kenobi* then at least the Double Standard would have been consistent by having him Wangst over Owen and Beru. But alas, Lucas was a crappy writer from the beginning, and so......

But with a character like Kara Zor-El....the only viable explanation is if she's planning to go evil and Kid Marvelman Metropolis, but that probably will wait until the next DCU Super-Mega-Ultra Final Crisis.

Yes, because I actually had the two confused for a second. On the other hand, Cluemaster was a "lesser" version of the Calculator so his being a villain against Batgirl shouldn't be that difficult.....

On the other hand, this being the DCU the only time this will be brought up is when Steph goes evil and stripperific.
