The Birds of Prey get more Lady-like

yaaaay it's excitement all around for the return of the very first title i ever started collecting, the Birds of Prey! and here at ravenous_raven's request is the first appearance of Lady Blackhawk in the series.


don't know the issue numbers, sorry, i didn't start collecting until #100 and had to find as many trades as I could to catch up (still haven't got them all).

Interesting. I have never had Lady Blackhawk on my radar before.. but she looks pretty badass. And I actually like her uniform - though I am mostly not partial to such short skirts.

I have never actually seen her in action, fighting a bad guy. Did she ever? What can she even do besides fly a plane? My knowledge of this person is zilch.

She's kicked some asses in BoP over the years, certainly.

She's such a fun character, I loved when she did a road trip just to put up a pic of her and the birds up at a bar she used to go to when Barda passed away.

And I'm amused whenever people mention how short her skirt is. XD

I can't help but wonder though...if it's a standard, airforce-issued outfit, wouldn't it be a bit longer? Unless its sexism? We can see that the women at least are a little put off...

I am astonished (well considering its DC maybe not so much) that almost no one did anything with Zinda after Birds was canceled. She's such a fun character and being from another time and culture can pretty much get away with saying anything she wants. Though it is kinda weird (and I don't think Gail went into this much) that someone who must be a mega-millionaire many times over and richer than either Canary, Oracle or Huntress (from her shared in the Blackhawk Corporation) should consent to be basically a fourth-wheel employee taking orders like she was still a soldier. This is an independent lady we're talking about here (as Spy Smasher found out).

Does Babs really treat her like that? We see here that she's pretty adamant that there'll be no back-seat-fliers around...As for being on a team and not going off on her own with her Blackhawk money, maybe she likes being a team member and isn't really the type to be the leader. I know lots of assertive, independent girls that will still follow a leader they respect and admire.

I want to comment on bare legs and tiny skirts, but honestly? I love that uniform. I guess as long as she's in a plane it's not too impractical, and out of a plane she looks just kickass enough to overlook it.

Zinda was one of the people who left the strongest impression on me, character-wise (meaning I got a sense of "who she was") after I read my first BoP trade, Dead of Winter, recently.

It'll be great to see her again properly. :D

Everything left aside, the character, the fighting abilities, the personality, etc (all of which may as well make her a great character). She fought during WW2! There is NO way she should be looking like that! Where are the wrinkles? And the cane?!

I know, it may seem a bit hypocritical to talk about timeline issues in a universe where the mightiest weapon is a ring that makes stuff you think up, but they had three crisises by now to fix exactly stuff like that. @_@
