Cham doesn't really come across well in his speech here, I can see what he was trying to go for, but it comes across as just plain whiny "Puhleeeese go into the horrible, horrible Phantom Zone, which is worse than anything I've ever been through, and it'll be shit for you for a very, very long time, but I need you to do it for my timeline to exist", particularly to a hero who is probably just plain confused about his continuity (I know I'm baffled) and doesn't deserve this crap.

I have the urge to put it next to the Threeboot version and compare.

But I can't, because all my copies went back to the library. Grrr...

Clark. Standard continuity, clark meets Mon when theyre young but he has to go into the phantom zone for the same old reason. When Mon is taken out of the phantom zone in the legion timeline clark is around doing his tour of the future

The original story is pretty hilarious. Doesn't Clark give his new space friend lead poisoning then sentences him to 1000 years of disembodied hell, all out of spite and jealousy? Initially, I mean, then he gets remorseful. I always thought the time travel bit was a cop-out, because from Clark's perspective his screw-up was fixed almost immediately, whereas from Mon's perspective he's been in a sensory deprivation tank for longer than England has existed.

No, it was because he was trying to test if Mon-El was lying, so he exposed him to kryptonite, which didn't affect him. But the lead box it was in did. He had to sent him to the Zone to save his life. That's how I recall the original story. It wasn't an issue of spite or jealousy.

Just paranoia. (Which was particulaly bad, since it was Clark who war flying through hoops to prove that Lar was Kryptonian when they met.)

Current version, it was Lar's own concerns that lead to the Kryptonite test that resulted in the lead exposure.

And, to nitpick slightly, in the original, the 'kryptonite' was green painted balls of lead...and Clark thought that Lar's reaction proved he was faking, because it was harmless lead (I love that they consistently call lead harmless in any story involving Mon-El).

How the hell does lead affect him anyway? I could almost understand a hypersensitivity to contact, but I've seen it affect him just by being near him. Lead DOESN'T RADIATE.

Vril just got a means of lots of money, he gets to appear to defeat Brainiac AND capture him, and he has confirmation of the immortality of his line and name. These are the things that keep that smirk riveted on his smug, smug green face.

See this still doesn't explain what happened to the Phantom Zone before that kicked Mon out in the first place.

Something like that (not that I ever understood it) but it brings up further problems as well.

Cham is making it clear the Phantom Zone can no longer be accessed after this until way into the future. Buttttt we know Zod and co will end up back in it inevitably as we see them try to escape the Zone in Legion of Three Worlds.

I don't see why they can't do something like put Mon in suspened animation or something in the Phantom Zone so he at least doesn't have to wait.

And that last shot of his face needs to be made into something.

The part with the Brainiac family was bad ass!

Also the part with Mon-El made me depressed, he was so happy in Metropolis being BFF with Jim Harper and having an awesome relationship with Billi Harper. Seriously can't the Legion just give him the cure and have him continue his life? Oh wait yeah Silverage! Mon-El MUST be with the Legion and has to be with Shadow Lass :/

Also Mon-El bonds with a young Clark then he sees him as an adult and finally ends up meeting him as a kid again! That's time travel for you!

Seeing this reminds me of the final arc in the Legion of Super-Heroes animated series, which I love. That arc had me wishing that there were story arcs in DC that pitted Brainiac 5 against Brainiac. My wish has been granted. Still, I'd love it if that particular arc has been adapted to comic form. Just sayin. :D

Okay, so New Earth Mon-el is the one that joined the Silver Age Legion. But what about the one that joined Supergirl's Legion-Prime? Is threeboot Mon-el the same one?

Threeboot Mon-El is a victim of Prime who put him in there hence him coming out and gunning for anyone wearing an S. He is from Daxam-Prime.
