Thor #379 - the chat before the big fight
May. 18th, 2010 10:43 pmA little bit of the humor of #379, the discussion before the big showdown as Thor meets Fing Fang Foom for the first time. The formalities must be followed.
*Again, not my scans.
The Frost Giants try to summon Jormungand, the Midgard Serpent, but get Fing Fang Foom instead. He hears about a weak Thor and goes to NYC to challenge the Thunder God, based on his past look.
Funny happens.

Is it me or do I hear Ian McShane's Deadwood formality as I read Fing Fang in discourse?
I do so love how all the mannerisms and personality traits are interpreted in the art, and how Thor craftily plays the part of "common NYC super hero at your service" instead of challenging him outright.

And Thor pretending to be someone other than Thor to avoid a fight? That just doesn't seem like the Marvel Thor to me.

Date: 2010-05-19 01:10 pm (UTC)As well, Thor and the Midgard Serpent (iIn Fang Foom. The OP says they accidentally summoned him but in truth this issue was meant to imply they were one and the same.) are destined to kill each other if they ever do battle (with no resurrection possible) and due to Thor's condition at that time, if they fought, fate/destiny would actually have been changed, the Serpent would have won and Ragnarok would have a drastically different (and horribly negative) outcome for gods and humans. So Thor is basically, "I can't win in my condition and my eventual slayer will kill me if we fight at this moment instead of it being a draw."
