Three scans from the current issue of Sonic the Hedgehog, #212.
For some backstory, aftering blowing up an alien Doomsday weapon that would turn Mobius into a blackhole, Sonic was luanch into outter space and was gone for a year in Mobius's time (when it was months to him). Durning that time, everyone on planet formerly known as earth thought Sonic was dead, which was bad for Sally since she just purpose to her parents that Sonic would be her royal consort right before. So when Sonic came back, it was happy times. But then Sally, fearing to loose Sonic again, asks him to not fight Robotnik, to which Sonic refuse.... which made Sally slap in in rage, thinking that he would rather be playing hero than to be with her. Despite their painful break up (in front of a large crowd on stage) the two still remained friends, and it hasn't changed their working environment of breaking the Eggman Empire down.

During this time, Sonic has been... flirting with other girls... Amy, Rouge, Bunnie (originally she did that to make Ant [who was really Anti-Ant, don't you love comic book romances?]) and even Fionia Fox,  the girl that Tails had a crush on. Sally had no little to no problems  to this, although Sonic did had few objections to hers. Sonic went to great lengths to make sure the wedding of sally and Ant (really Anti-Ant) did not came to pass, and he did gave of an odd face when Sally and Monkey Khan were walking arm in arm.

After reclaiming the nanite city of New Mobotroplios from the Iron Domion, Sally and Khan share a moment in the kingdom of the free people's king.

And after that, there is a odd little scene that you may NEVER scene before in any mainstream comic for a long time...

Sally breaks up with Khan because she is still in love with Sonic... and he is okay with that. Look at Sally's expression as Khan takes a deep breath, even she was freak out. I know this a minor, but think about. Can you guys name a relationship between two comic characters that ended with...
  1. The two of them getting married and/or having a kid.
  2. One of them bursting out of anger or tears, making a statement that is along the lines of "You betrayed my trust" or "How can you do this to me."
  3. One them ACTUALLY betraying the trust of the other, like betraying the team or sleeping with someone else (glare at Scott and Emma)
  4. One them getting tragically  killed.
  5. Having one them just be drop from the book and never be heard form again (Impulse fans know what I am talking about)
  6. One of them leaving the other for some reason and becomes attracted to another.
  7. Something coming along the way to change everything (like Lois in Final Crisis or One More Day.)
  8. And whatever I can't think of at the time...
Seriously. The only time I think I read where the heroes just calmly break up with one another is back in the Wolfman Titans, where Wally and Raven split (mostly because Raven was abusing her powers and make Wally think he was in love with her). Does anyone else know a book from the last 10 years where a couple just break up with out one them being killed or screaming and breaking into tears?

Didn't she then hook up with Vision, the guy who is the robot version of Wonder Man?

Things were heading that way, but I'm not sure it actually happened before the Vision got deactivated. Either way, it fits your criteria, I think.

I do the thing where I buy the entire year in bulk off of the Archie website, so technically I stopped at the beginning of 2009.

Ooh, that sounds nifty! Do other comics companies do that, or is it just Archie?

Furry love
Never as complicated as these silly human romances that fit all those cliche's.

.... did you not hear me when I mention that Sally was about to marry a man, who was really his evil universe double posing as him, which happens after Sonic's evil universe douple posed as him for a brief time and flirted with all the girls in the comic, including Rouge that Bat. Or what about Tails crush on an older girl, who bitch-slap him so hard he went flying?

...I think you might have left that part out. You mentioned Sonic doing those things, but neglected to mention it was really the pre-Scourge Anti-Sonic.

I really like the Sally/Khan romance. It's believable, both clearly like each other, but the reason they decide to break up is believable too. It's conceivable they could get together and be happy, or not, and still be happy.

-Does anyone else know a book from the last 10 years where a couple just break up with out one them being killed or screaming and breaking into tears?-

Hm, I can think of a few on-again-off-against that just gradually translated into 'off' (Gina Diggers from Gold Digger and Ryan, for one). But I'm hard pressed to think of one handled this maturely.

My best friend always says that, when it comes to tales of love and romance, her secret fetish is for characters acting like goddamn adults. She'd like this.

Best part is, it still leaves the Sonic-Sally-Khan triangle up in the air, even if Khan's temporarily out of the picture. Because like she said, she really wants to sort out her feelings for Sonic. So it could go either way.

Unlike teasing us with the LoisClarkLana triangle, unless it is an elseworld story. the Ending to Generations seems alot like a fanfic...
