But he is quite partial to flame-haired Irish men



What pushes this into the realm of slight weirdness is that Gordon's narration is actually him telling this story to Batman! Hmmm, I wonder what he really makes of Bruce Wayne?

And can anyone please tell me what the heck his wife Barbara is going on about here because I really have no clue.

I don't know if it's still in continuity, but Jim Gordon fought in Vietnam, which might explain his antipathy for hippies. Surviving a harrowing tour of duty just to land in America and have a bunch of unwashed potheads call you a baby killer might sour any relationship.

Practically all the older hippies I know were Nam vets. The straight-laced types, they didn't go.
