Title: Frenemy of the State #1 (Oni Press, 2010, 22 pages)
Creators: Christina Weir, Nunzio DeFilippis, Rashida Jones (story) and Jeff Wamester (art)
Availability: On sale now

What if one of the "famous for being famous" girls actually had a brain in her head under that cover of self-centered obliviousness? And was pretty good at using it? And was pressed into service as a spy meant to infiltrate the lives of the rich-and-infamous?

Ariana von Holmberg starts off as a high Intelligence, low Wisdom character. Smart enough to hack the security system to get into her cheating boyfriend's house, not quite smart enough to realize that punching him halfway across the pool when she catches him in the act might have some lasting repercussions, him being the son of a senator and all...

There's also a preview up at CBR.

I'm still on the fence about whether or not to tradewait. On the one hand, I am finding this fun so far, I'm curious about what's coming up next, and I trust the creative team to make the story worth picking up as it comes out. On the other, I find that a lot of espionage stories do read better as a collection than as a monthly, and there is the whole matter of buying the story twice over. I'll give it one more issue before I decide.

Wait, wait, Rashida Jones as in the actress?? Haha, that's cool. I really love her on Parks and Rec.

That said.... might 'tradewait' myself. But I'm interested!

Everything I hear about Rashida Jones makes her seem more awesome.

And from "The Office." This will be interesting...

I'm not so crazy about the art here...but I do really like Rashida Jones (even though I didn't know she wrote!) and the premise sounds cool.

The execution is OK, but I like the premise. I've always thought that "Paris Hilton" sounded like a secret agent/Bond girl name.

Looks interesting. I'll see if my Local has it when I go in next.

Question: Christina Weir and Nunzio Defilippis. Is it any coincidence that two characters with those names showed up in Rucka's novelization of "No Man's Land"?

Hm...and a quick Google search tells me that Weir and Defilippis are married, just as their "No Man's Land" counterparts are. That's sweet. :)
