DR. STRANGE: When Stephen met Morgana (plus some ILLUMINATI)

Roger Stern's run on DOCTOR STRANGE began with the introduction of Morgana (one N, not two) Blessing, who eventually became Stephen Strange's girlfriend. Roger Stern himself explains:

"Morgana Blessing was the sort of woman that Doc would have had a relationship with, in his previous career as a high-priced surgeon. She was the Earthly love, in contrast with the ethereal, extradimensional Clea. All the regular readers loved Clea, of course, but the relationship she and Doc had was not exactly an enlightened one. If Clea had just been Docs lover that would have been okay, but shed also become his student, his disciple. It was a case of I love you, Clea. And I love you, Master. And not in a sweet, innocent, I Dream of Jeanie way, either. Not a healthy relationship, not healthy at all."

Plus, sunglasses are always cool

Everybody loves Snake Eyes and it's pretty easy to see why just from the early days of the comic, when I think he just wears sunglasses and a ski mask. While it's hard to tell Breaker from Stalker, Snake Eyes sets himself apart with horrific scars, no dialogue, and a certain mystique that comes from never saying how badass you are when other people can do it for you.

Adèle - From the upcoming movie

Some of you may have heard that Luc Besson has made a movie based on the French comic The Most Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec (Les Aventures Extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec) by Tardi, to be released in France in April (no word yet on a US release date).

Since many probably aren't familiar with Adèle, I thought it might be worth introducing the series in advance of the movie hype. Here, then, are some excerpts from the first album, Adèle & the Beast (Adèle et la Bête, 1976).

This album (as well as the next four in the series) was put out in English by NBM in 1990. It also ran in Dark Horse's Heavy Metal-style magazine Cheval Noir. Fantagraphics is currently publishing some of Tardi's other stories in translation by Kim Thompson, and it's a highly recommended purchase.

In honor of the Superbowl: SuperPro!

Greetings True Believers! I got off early from the work to watch the SB with some friends. (For all the good it did me, goddamned Saints.) I thought I'd make myself feel better by posting one of Marvel's great, late and unlamented series: NFL SuperPro!

It is perhaps the worst Marvel comic of all time. I'm glad I own an issue of it. Enjoy! For this is crack and it's what we're here for!
