In the first installment of this series, I introduced you to a pair of Will Eisner's more obscure creations - an American secret agent known as Black X and a femme fatale known only as Madame Doom. While Black X appeared in comics for almost a hundred issues overall, lasting all the way to the end of the Golden Age, Madame Doom only appeared eleven times. Curiously, her appearance often changed between issues, which actually kind of makes sense. After all, she was a spy who is trying to evade attention. It's certainly makes more sense than Black X's ability to go undercover even while wearing his rather distinctive monocle (but that's a tangent for another post).

Many Faces of Madame Doom

We jump forward to Smash Comics #12, where we find our heroes facing off against Madame Doom, who allied herself with a very familiar character.

A descendant? You didn't read the original novel at all, did you? (9 pages under the cut) )

No, not the character from Byrne's Fantastic Four run, a new webcomic character.

Start here.

The forum has already called out that her costume is highly reminiscent of Julia Carpenter's. So they're brainstorming ideas for a new one. I thought s_d would appreciate this post:

'If you are just talking Costume, I think that the redback's pattern on a rifle resistant hard chest plate or good soft armor vest is a good idea.

'After all, the reason why Batman had the logo on his chest was to encourage people to shoot at his body armor, a smart girl like Heather could probably figure that out herself too.

'Combine that with Xdiesp's parkour outfit concept, and maybe a belt of pouches, and you've got a very practical superhero outfit.'

OK, both in the requests thread and the Rise of Arsenal postings I'm seeing calls for Lian Harper Memorial Posts. So here's one of my favorites from Superboy #82 (2001), "Power Lunch," in which Roy and Lian meet their newfound cloned uncle Jim Harper, a.k.a. Guardian, for coffee and conversation.

As usual, Lian steals the scene. )

5 pages plus preview panel of a 22 page story. I remember seeing this on s_d before, but a quick tiptoe through the tags makes me believe it's gone gone gone.

ETA: A request for those who've been following Guardian in the "World Without Superman" plotline. It's mentioned in Adventure Comics 8 that spoiler ) Can anyone point me in the direction of the issue/s where this occurred?

Tag suggestions - char: guardian/jim harper, char: lian harper, char: speedy/red arrow/roy harper, char: superboy/kon-el/conner kent, creator: jay faerber, creator: sunny lee (new tag), publisher: dc comics, title: superboy
