Bonjour S_D! Today's theme is Heroes and Villains!

What makes superhero comics so interesting isn't just the heroes, but their villains and how they react/interact with those villains.

The full calendar is here so you can get your scans ready! And don't forget to stick around for tomorrow post: Classic bande dessinée

And for legality, a great Joker tale... )

I'm pleased to say that this is my first post in the long years of lurking around this community!

Seeing as this is a community heavily invested in the trials and tribulations of heroes and their nemeses, there will surely be no small representation in today's category. But on meditating on the subject further (and retreading Alan Moore's fantastic, overstuffed graphic novel, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), I was reminded of an even older rivalry predating superhero comics: That of Sherlock Holmes, great detective, versus James Moriarty, the Napoleon of Crime.

So then! Here are seven pages from The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume 1, Issue 5.

Well... here we are, then. )

I'd like to take a moment to thank the mod team for coming up with these daily themes - it's great inspiration for first time posters!

From DAREDEVIL #300, written by D.G. Chichester with art by Lee Weeks. They also did the "final" issue of DAREDEVIL Vol. 1. This was one the first stories that covered Wilson Fisk's life before he became the Kingpin. A few others (all DD stories, I think) covered Fisk before his appearance in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #50, but not many.

Traumatic childhood flashback on line 1. )

Check out the colored preview to "Wolverine: The Best There Is #3." Looks like Marvel sent two previews - one edited and one in full gore! Below is an unedited pic. Preview at CBN.

There's just something appealing about pitting a protagonist against someone with whom he shares a disturbing similarity; be it in powers or beliefs or appearances, mirror image battles are always fun to see.

Hourman 11-13 featured the Else-Men, villains whose abilities and modus operandi revolved around the creation and propagation of such could-have-beens; they were such a menace in the 853rd Century that Justice Legion Alpha needed the help of an old member..

..the titular hero, who was then introspective and mucking about time with a motley supporting cast. )
