Fulfilling my second holiday request, this series of posts is dedicated to ravenous_raven.

Be fairly warned, if you haven't read any of Bill Willingham's Fables (WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?), here there be spoilers. Also, I'm not gonna waste too much time explaining who every single person is and what they're about. There's Google and Wikipedia for that ;)

Day 11: Asterix, Tintin, Spirou and Fantaio! Oh my!

My collection of BD/bande dessinée comics is small but growing. Mostly I just have Tintin, and not even all of that.

So today I'll give you snippets of what I have (except for Dungeon, I already posted some.

Tintin (one page from the Black Island and one from the Blue Lotus)! Asterix (one page from Asterix and Cleopatra)! Spirou et Fantasio (two pages, Adventure Down Under)! English Translations! Whooo!

Squirrel Girl's Greatest Hits.

Things have exploded in the realm of Squirrel Girl this week. Bendis and Immonen hit a grand slam with her first appearance in a mainstream Marvel Comic with New Avengers #7, and the fanboy fury has been fantastic. My loyalty to Doreen Green runs deep, and tonight I would like to share a few of her best moments.

30 Days of Winter: Day 11 - Classic Bande Dessinée: Smurfs!

So given it's classic BD day, I thought I'd share one of the more recognizable creations to Anglo audiences, Peyo's Surfs (or Les Shtroumpfs, in the original language). Most of us of an *ahem* certain age can remember the oh-so-shmaltzy cartoon on Saturday mornings, and the wave of little figurines that were almost everywhere in the early 80's, but we never really got the best of the little blue guys.

30 Days of Winter: Day 10 - Heroes and Villains (late): The Agents of Atlas

Jimmy Woo and the other Agents of Atlas, while clearly a group of "good guys" (at least to us readers!), have occasionally used the fact that the Atlas Foundation was formerly an evil empire to their advantage.



Below, in two full pages and one panel from the eight-page Agents of Atlas story "The Heist" in Dark Reign: New Nation, they break into Fort Knox (very publicly) and make off with a large amount of solid gold bullion. Their aim is to figure out who was behind a plan to buy weapons without the inconvenience of getting Congress approval first.

Of course, they've also been on the receiving end - particularly at the hands of Jimmy's once-girlfriend and current (during the particular story arc) nemesis, Suwan a.k.a the Jade Claw. She is the head of Great Wall, an offshoot and rival of Jimmy's Atlas Foundation. After commandeering Atlas' communications channels (twice) and causing the saucer heavy damage in a firefight, she decides to enjoy herself a little - on a personal level - during another fight.

So there they are: the Agents as heroes both playing *at* being villains and being played *by* villains. I love their versatility and I miss them.
