I've shocked, SHOCKED AND DISMAYED by the lack of Marvel Adventures: Spider-man (or as comiclist puts it "Spider-man (Marvel Adventures)" or as all right-thinking indviduals puts it: The AWESOME Spider-man.

The cute is strong with this one! Oh, and spoilers.

Jesus Christ, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I felt the community should know. We've lost the legendary Gene Colan, age 84.

Here's the link with words more eloquent written by Mark Evanier. http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2011_06_23.html#020849

Another good one's joined the ranks of Kirby and Weiringo. He will be missed.

Usually a week starts on Mondays or Sundays but, because of the magic that Gene Colan gave to all of us, I decided to start today to pay homage to this late Master of Horror and Suspense (Feel free to post whatever you want from Gene Colan during these days, amigos). May the Homage begin now!

Farewell, Gene Colan! )

It's been a light week for comics for me and the postie hasn't delivered my Casanova or DMZ yet. Boo to that.

So, here's some clippings from Brian Wood's Public Domain sketchbook )

And from Local #5. You should buy the hardback edition because a) it's totally value for money, b) it's a very good, rich story, c) the art is lovely and d) I'm not sure that I own a book that looks better on my shelf.

Local follows a young woman, Megan, around America and a bit of Canada as she finds herself. Each issue is a different location and a different done in one story, all feeding into the larger arc. Today, we're in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where Megan works at a cinema. )

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
TL;DR version: Amnesia and bad continuity have left Wonder Woman unsure of her abilities, so she asks the JLA to monitor her next 12 missions to make sure she's still fit for duty.

This issue, it's Aquaman's turn to stalk, er, "monitor" Wonder Woman. Warning to Aquaman fans: This is not his finest hour.

I was wondering what to post for this tribute, it's not like there's a dearth of material, and I posted the Batman/Vampire stuff before, but then I remembered one particular story which might be of special interest on s_d, from Gentleman Gene's run on Wonder Woman.

Amongst his many other achievements is one that might go unnoticed; the 1982 introduction of the first major change to Wonder Woman's costume (other than her depowered civvies era) in... well, ever.

It was published, of all places as a comic within a comic within DC Comics Presents #41 (Superman teams up with the Joker in a story that's not without it's charms, but isn't directly relevant here)

What might the W stand for do you think? )
