"Author and comics writer Gerard Jones, perhaps best known for his acclaimed 2004 book “Men of Tomorrow,” was arrested last week on suspicion of possessing and distributing child pornography.

According to SFGate, the 59-year-old writer was arrested Dec. 29 following a police investigation and search of his San Francisco home allegedly uncovered electronic devices storing more than 600 images and videos depicting child pornography.

Authorities say Jones uploaded videos to YouTube depicting a child performing sexual acts on an adult, while a video allegedly found in his home is said to show children as young as 1 year old. KTVU adds that investigators believe Jones also traveled to London several years ago to have sex with a minor."

'Okay, let's talk about "virtue signalling" for a moment. First, you cynical fucks who use it as a pejorative, sometimes other people need to know that they're not alone, esp. in rural communities, etc. Speaking with compassion isn't about scoring points, it's about reaching out and reminding each other than we're not alone. Second, the naked cynicism of the term "virtue signalling" is stomach-turning. We can be better than this. YOU can be better than this. Cynicism has only one purpose--to make you feel cool. (And in that way, it's even more "virtue signalling" than "virtue signalling" is.) Cynicism brings nothing to any table. It has no up side. It exists only to denigrate. And that's why I hate it, and that's why you never see it in my work. We can be better.' -- Mark Waid

Luciano Vecchio is an Argentian artist I follow on DeviantArt and Tumblr. Amongst other work, he's been the artist on some of the "Easy Reader" DCAU books which are very cute and my nieces have enjoyed.

Quoting from his entry on DA for these pages (which he kindly agreed to share)

Last week I read the anthology Love Is Love, published by DC Comics and IDW, an homage to the victims and survivors of the Orlando shooting.

I didn’t dare asking to participate when Marc Andreyko made an open call for creators. But after reading it, and seeing the DC characters there (which I didn’t expect), I kept thinking what would I have done, and I was inspired to do this short story. Couldn’t help myself actually.

It falls utterly and unashamedly under the category of fan fiction. My first ever.

So with that preamble in mind... )
