She seems to have a tag under

char: spoiler/robin/batgirl/steph brown (this one being the most used)

and

char: batgirl/spoiler/robin/steph brown.

Hmm.Odd.

Never did read Shi myself so I don't know how good it was or not.

I'm personally hoping she and Jean Paul are just hanging out somewhere and having fun. Because Jean Paul was never dead DC! *In denial*

That being said Cass as White Canary at the moment seems way out there and if it's Shiva as White Canary first and Cass taking the mantle one must wonder why. She wanted to make the Bat-symbol feared again (which was the reason she quit being Batgirl) so taking up a whole new mantle wouldn't really make sense.

Which is why I never post anymore. The DW!S_D tags system is dumb.

True, the tagging system does bother me a lot, but especially now that it's in lockdown and we can't update the tags. It's one of the reasons I'm posting alot less lately.

My general solution to tag issues is
a. Go to http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/tag
b. Search for character/creator/title name with the in-browser search
c. Write that as a suggested tag

(OK, that's my solution if I'm not feeling lazy, in which case I write something which is close to the right tag and figure the mods will make some effort to correct it.)

I think it's a flap of cloth that is covering the actual thong betwixt cheeks.....for modesty....yeah....that would've made TOTAL sense in the 90's.

I weep. Seriously guys, if you can't treat her right--and you haven't been--then just leave the character alone. I'd rather not read her at all, then have to pretend the crap you wrote later doesn't exist.

Okay...so I ALREADY do that, but the less the better. :/

If you hold your nose and read a few issues of Tucci's Shi, there's some interesting story beats in there about the balancing act between cultures; Shi, Ana Yoshikawa, tries to balance her Japanese and American heritage, as well as the Catholicism she learned from her mother with the fact that she tends to kill a lot of people.

It's a real pity that her outfit is so fucking stupid, because there's a good comic book somewhere inside Shi struggling to get out, but it's hidden under eight layers of '90s bad girl art.

The only familiarity I have with the character is from reading the three issue miniseries that illustrates the Thirty-Six Stratagems with stories drawn from her life and the experiences of her teachers. It was very well done.

I only ever read Shi in her Fallen Angel crossover, which was okay, but instantly forgettable. In fact, I have completely forgotten what that was even about.

Oh, and I still say White Canary is evil future Sin, which is convoluted, yes, but has that extra layer of emotional horribleness Simone likes so much.

City of Lost Children is a pretty neat movie though.

I really hope White Canary isn't Sin. I'm so sick of DC having kids with "bad guy" roots turning out to be evil. (IIRC we don't know who Sin's parents were, but she was being raised to be the next Shiva before Canary came into the picture.)

If Sin was Shiva's daughter, it would explain why she has so much in common with Cass.

I kinda just wanna know what Sin is up to.

I've always thought it would be cool to have Cass be kind of a big sister figure for Sin, given that they were both trained/intended to be killers as children.

But yeah, it would be nice to see how Sin's been living and hopefully that Dinah's been in regular contact with her.

Well no, it's more like a small amount of people like some imaginary fan reconstruction of her character that has been raised up on a gargantuan pedestal and then encased in a dome to prevent any and all character development from reaching her.

There's character development, and then there's just shoving random things in because you can't be bothered.

Good character development example, Terry McGinnis: goes from being a young, inexperienced street punk with a habit for bad puns to someone who's actually good at Batmanish superheroics with a more deadpan sense of humour.

Bad character development example, Cass: "I'm abandoning my Batgirl title as all my friends are dead and I couldn't do anything to help them, and I can't superhero effectively in the constaints of the Bat Family, so I'm going to do it under my own terms." to "Damn, I sure like being evil! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Yes, wanting a character's history and personality to be considered and respected is exactly the same as wanting her to be perfect, and wanting characters who saw her as family to be seen giving a damn is the same as wanting her to be adored by everyone.

Cass had a lot of development in her own title. The difference is that it was organic, thoughtful, and sensible.
