Even as a fan of the Punisher, unlike Joss, I still loved this. Frank had that one coming.

Punisher kills theives now? I thought death was reserved for murders, rapists, drug dealers, and thugs (depending on the severity of their assults).

I'd consider shooting unarmed kids more notable than shooting thieves.

Well his justification is that they stole something, they "crossed the line" that makes them "scum" that need to be shot repeatedly until dead.

Which is WAY different than where I remember the line being for Frank isallI'msayin.

Mine is "Some of us ARE yelling at you, Molly." Just imagining it said in that deadpan way she tends to sound in my head makes me giggle.

It's right up there for funny next to "Yes, mijito. You ARE a princess." from Blue Beetle.

Frank Castle's biggest weakness tends to be writers who don't like him/don't understand that he does actually have a soul.

Sometimes, though, it's worth seeing him written out of character so we can get funny scenes like this.

Still, Molly Hayes nutgut-punching Frank will never stop being funny.

Yeah, 'specially considering what he did to a guy who was going to kill a girl under Frank's protection who happened to remind him of his kid.

Let's just say the narration states that he "twists his leg off like a drumstick" and leave it like that.

I loved the follow up scene with Fran a few issues later (and about a year or so later in publishing time thanks to slow ass...writing). Which was eesentially Frank just slowly getting back up after having been punished my Molly with the team suddenly thinking

"What ever happened to Punisher?"
"Shit, I forgot about him"

Frank: HNNNNNNNNN.

i love when they show Kingpin and in the middle of his own internal caption he's like "MMM CHOCOLATE"

Wheadon's run got a lot of unfair flack for not being quite as good as Vaghun's run was, which was kinda unavoidable, really, seeing as how much everyone loved Vaghun's Runaways and the sky high expectations for Wheadon's.

Also, we're approaching the end of Death Week and nobody has posted Gert's death yet?! For shame.

This was the one moment of Whedon's run that I loved. In fact, the first couple of issues were generally ok, it just went south when they went back in time.

All that stuff about the redheaded dancing girl, and Gert's alternate reality parents. Just lost me.

What was wrong with Lily? She seemed like an interesting enough character to me, although the romance subplot was admittedly underdeveloped.

Also, that wasn't an alternate reality - those were Gert's parents from when they were younger.

Yeah, the OOC-ness of it just stops it from being funny to me. This part was so completely and utterly made of fail that I was surprised that Joss Whedon wrote it, and it stopped me from reading any more of his run on Runaways.

Doesn't help that this was case N+1 of "tiny girl takes out huge guy", one of Joss Whedon's very favorite things. (Check out "Waif Fu" on TV Tropes, if you dare.)

But pretty much all Joss Whedon humor tends to hinge on OOC-ness. Certainly in his comics work.

In fact, Marvel should just give Molly Hayes an ongoing, where she teams up with different Marvel characters each month, and ends up punching them

No, I said Molly "post"-punching Punisher in the stomach. Following. Afterward. The next issue. Succeeding. v2 #27+. Everyone has seen this issue, I wanted to see what happened to Molly after that. I heard they went back in time or something. Someone somewhere had to have read those issues.

Honestly, I can only read this as the Punisher expecting the kids to be intimidated, give him the things they stole and info on the Kingpin, and be scared back onto the straight and narrow, then having trouble when they go off-script. That's the reading that makes sense with the Punisher's characterization to me.

You're underestimating Chase's ability to rub people the wrong way. ;)

But yeah, I don't believe he was going to actually shoot them, and I wouldn't be surprised if Vic and Chase, at least, thought they knew that. Vic, especially, was a superhero fanboy.
