Blue Beetle live-action screen test

First up is one of my personal favorites: a live action screen test of Blue Beetle transforming and something we’re using in the hopes of bringing him to the small screen. There was so much excitement when I mentioned this on Twitter I thought I’d share a little more information…

I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Blue Beetle’s introduction way back in INFINITE CRISIS. I’ve said it before, but thanks to the BLUE BEETLE series launched by Keith Giffen and John Rogers with a great design by Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes rocks. Great character, great story, great look. He’s already appeared in animation, had action figures and right now he’s on my computer in live-action glory. I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn’t final. This isn’t greenlit. It’s only a test that was done. We still have a long way to go to see if we can get this off the ground and a lot of people to jump on board…but check out some stills:

Neat! I think we need more "In-Suit" Superhero Dramas. Does anyone remember the "Adventures of Lois and Clark." I know some of the outfits and story lines come out chessy, but if they do go that way, it maybe a change of pace of the "dramatic" superhero/adventures shows.

This looks promising for what is obviously, as they say, more of a "what if we tried this" than a solid sell for the series.

It's what I was dreading in terms of the production. Should they ever make a Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle, that it would feel like Power Rangers.

I can practically here the music in the background.

That said, I'm glad the suit looks GOOD!

Having never read any Blue Beetle, can I just say that I am disproportionately excited about his? I just love Superhero series. Judging from what I've seen people on the net say about Jaime, this show would be exactly everything my 13 year old self would die to watch every week.

It can't hurt their chances that Ugly Betty was canceled this year. God knows my TV could use more awesome, racially diverse (for television) family dynamics. Maybe they could play up the void left by UB as a selling point. I dunno, I guess I'm just hoping that TV Studios will use their racism for good for once. HEY GUYS, WE NEED A NEW SHOW FOR THE LATINO DEMO - FUND IT!

Also, it's a solid comic, and his family is awesome. More of this, please. Every time a good series gets greenlit (yes, I know I'm jumping ahead of myself here), a reality TV show gets sidelined. Mwahahahahaa.

Who's the actor or is he only a temp for the test?

Only a temp, these shots are just tests to show how it would work if an actual show got made, so nobody has been permanently cast for the part yet.

I get a more kick-ass than smart-ass feel from those images. I hope they can have Jaime kick ass and be a smart-ass at the same time.

Maybe I'd like it more if it was an animated series.

2. Diane Nelson and I work on everything outside of the comics in film, television and other media alongside Warner Bros. to try and bring DC’s rich and expansive universe of characters and stories to life.

This would seem to clarify what Johns' promotion is actually about.

I like that he keeps us informed rather than hiding away and keeping everything a mystery that WB used to do. Does it do anyone any harm to say what is going in and coming out of production?

Looks pretty decent, and at least the guy in the test is still Hispanic. The real test, though, will be the scripts. You can have the best-looking show in the world, and it still won't be worth beans if there isn't a decent writer on board. Let;'s hope that one turns up.

So this is for reals then? Like I heard about the series but I didn't think they were doing it. Are they really doing it? Because omg if they are I will die so happy. I hope they have Brenda and Paco and Jaime's family and Traci and Booster and all the rest of the awesomeness from Jaime's book. Srsly. I'll be so happy...

I just hope to God that they keep Jaime IN CHARACTER. His comic run is by far my favorite that I own. And personally, I don't really care for his animated counter part as much. Too cocky.
