First up is one of my personal favorites: a live action screen test of Blue Beetle transforming and something we’re using in the hopes of bringing him to the small screen. There was so much excitement when I mentioned this on Twitter I thought I’d share a little more information…

I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Blue Beetle’s introduction way back in INFINITE CRISIS. I’ve said it before, but thanks to the BLUE BEETLE series launched by Keith Giffen and John Rogers with a great design by Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes rocks. Great character, great story, great look. He’s already appeared in animation, had action figures and right now he’s on my computer in live-action glory. I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn’t final. This isn’t greenlit. It’s only a test that was done. We still have a long way to go to see if we can get this off the ground and a lot of people to jump on board…but check out some stills:

Looks pretty decent, and at least the guy in the test is still Hispanic. The real test, though, will be the scripts. You can have the best-looking show in the world, and it still won't be worth beans if there isn't a decent writer on board. Let;'s hope that one turns up.

This is purely wishful thinking and all, but John Rogers is a television writer.

Forgive me for having missed something, but... who's John Rogers? (I mean, OK, you just told me; he's a television writer, but - how is he involved in this? Clearly, he's not the writer at this point, or wishful thinking wouldn't have to be involved.)

He was one of the original writers for Blue Beetle - John Rogers and Keith Giffen wrote BB #1-10, then Rogers took the book up after issue #11-25. Those first 25 issues actually got me back into DC comics after two years of not giving a damn about mainstream comics anymore. It was a great run, and one I keep going back to read again and again.

He's now the showrunner and executive producer for Leverage, which is also made of awesome. That show is taking up all his time and attention right now, so I doubt he'd be able to devote any time to a live-action BB series, but we can dream.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh-hh. OK. (One of these days, I have GOT to pick up the first trade.) Anyway, if he could devote enough time to it to write the pilot and flesh out the concept a bit, that would be enough, in my opinion. It's not as good as a continued presence, of course, but never underestimate that initial shove in the right direction - if you push hard enough, it takes some seriously boneheaded decisions to get things pointing the wrong way.

Ah, he was one of Jaime's creators - he wrote Blue Beetle from issue 1 to issue 7 (I think) with Keith Giffen, then wrote it alone until the End Game arc around issue 24 (off the top of my head).

Afterwards, he went and did the tv show Leverage.

He also wrote for, of all things, Jackie Chan Adventures.

A Jack-of-all-trades, it would seem.
