killing Mattie made me seriously think Marvel views this title as a franchise comparable to the Avengers and X-men. Such a shame she deserved so much better.

Makes you wonder if maybe some super-hero fan-groups in-universe might have little pamphlets they hand out to new members. "I know you got interested in Super Pants Man when the Dark Tickler, but that was actually an evil doppleganger from another universe. Yeah. It's on page 28."

I believe that was sort of the premise. Peter's villeins all were sort of animal based and that's a part of Peter's hunting spider mojo.

I'm reminded of the Astro City story about the lawyer, and have to wonder about the legal standards and burden of proof in the Marvel and DC (and Image, and Hellboy) universes . . .

You mean like if a guy who killed a hero is serving life in prison and if that person back to life, they get release because the person that was declared legally murdered is still alive? Oh God, I am getting Minority Report law-logic flashbacks.

Prsonally, this just seems lke a way to thin out the far to great a number of spider people in the MU. To be honest though, I am into the story regardless.

I'm gonna guess that since Jessica Drew is keeping the "Spider-Woman" trademark warm and since Arana is adopting Julia's costume that Julia is going to die as well during this storyline.

That's a shame and I hope it's not true. Julia is cool and can be an interesting character.
And I think it's a mistake for this story to actually kill off a bunch of spider-people. That could just be the bad guys plan and what unites all the characters into the mother of all action scenes. It's just as cool to have people survive from these things IMO. They could kick ass, grow and especially bond. Most important they're still around as viable characters.
But if there's an underlaying plan to get rid of spider-people then reason isn't going to make a difference.

Am I just reading that recap page wrong or is it actually confusing and wrong?
Sasha is Kraven's widow, but Arachne is fighting Sasha and her half-brother Al Kraven? Do they mean Ana's half-brother?
And Kaine tells his clone Peter that they're hunting spiders? It's the other way around surely?

Man, Spidey is so much more witty and interesting in Avengers than he is in his own title.

Man, if I didn't already not give a damn about the Spidey books these days, this'd be a few hundred more nails in the ol' coffin.

I remember Spidey having a good zinger in his fight with...one of the Spider-Women against...the Kraven people last issue. Don't remember what it was, but it wasn't a bad zinger.

But yeah, New Avengers is probably going to be my sole supply of well-written Spidey in the 616-verse.

It's a testament to Joe Kelly's ability as a storyteller that I find myself getting interested in this despite it involving BND Spidey AND the Spider-Totem shit.

Well, Joe Kelly or I just really like the Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman.

Ah, she probably dies halfway through the issue anyway.

Well, the art is neat. The storytelling is pretty good, but where it's going looks to be so profoundly stupid that I don't really care much.

I can never associate the spiritual/magical realm with Spider-Man. He was always about science to me.

I have to believe Peter is the one universal character in all of Marvel who gets to play in all the sand boxes (maybe not so much the mutant stuff). Science, sorcery and pretty much everything in between. Its just that the magical stories are not as well written as the science fiction based ones.

I like the idea behind how they're bringing back Kraven. I've always hoped they'd bring him back...only, you know, do it with a story that didn't suck.

Shame they don't publish Spider-Man main universe stories anymore. Seems like there was some kind of thing with Mephisto and then all of a sudden...no Spidey comics.

Mattie is JJJ's niece isn't she? I hope they will touch upon this, you know once JJJ finds out she died he will inevitably know she was Spider-Woman and will inevitably try to blame this on Spider-Man and fuel his rage against him.

I wasn't a big Mattie fan but I did like that she was brave and the fact that Madame web acknowledge her being a good Spider-Woman. Also Peter's reaction to her death seemed pretty tame, if I remember they kind of had a bro and sis relationship (even if he did erase her memory of his identity later on).
