That's Robin aged to an adult by a mcguffin, right? Or am I remembering this incorrectly?

You might think that, you would, of course, be wrong :)

Pre "Batman; Year One", the Robin identity was first created by Bruce Wayne during his own childhood, so he could learn detective work without revealing his true identity. So Bruce did indeed used to run around in the Robin costume.

Conversely, Golden Age Robin had access to a special Batman costume which was padded out so that he could slip into it and basically assume the size and appearance of Batman (Yes, I know that wouldn't actually work because he's so much smaller than Batman that his knees and elbows and the rest of him would be all in the wrong place, but it's the Golden Age, just go with it). It can be told apart from the standard Batman costume by the fact it has a stylised Robin redbreast on the chest rather than the Bat-symbol.

Even in the 1980's the college age Dick Grayson Robin had an inflatable Batman suit for similar situations. I'll see if I can find the issue in question.

Wasn't there also a story where they wound up switching ages somehow, and thus Dick had to be Batman and Bruce Robin so no one would notice?

Though that might've been Tim.

I imagine that Gordon has checked Gotham City statutes very, very carefully, in case he's ever called to testify at a court case.

"No, your honour, I can honestly say I never saw Batman serve Robin an alcoholic beverage in a licensed premises after the establishment was formally closed."

(Of course, just as I arrived I did see Robin being used as a dartboard by the Penguins gang in the same bar, but let's not mention that unless I have to.)

Forgive me, the first thing that came to mind was

Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes erroneously,
Moses he knowses his toeses aren't roses,
As Moses supposes his toeses to be!
Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes erroneously.

Which is distinctly less deep, but a lot harder to say...

Oh, that's how you wanna throw down, is it? Because I brought the rock.

I saw a bus marked XANADU
And climbed aboard to ride right through
To see the great Kubla's pleasure-dome
And all his world of polychrome.
With eager eyes, I once or twice
Glimpsed golden towers of strange device
And caught, or thought I caught, the sound
Of Alph's vast river underground

Despite of all the driver said
That moved me much to strike him dead,
He told us why, as on we flew,
The Khan had rationed honey-dew
And even clapped a ceiling price
On malted milk of Paradise.
With Kubla's frosty caves in sight,
He lectured on the troglodyte
And made such talk I couldn't hear
The horns of Elfland blowing clear.

Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread.

Awearied much, the bell I pressed,
Leaped to a bank of thyme to rest,
Then laughed to see my dream come true,
For, lo, I was in Xanadu;
As Kubla Khan came riding by
With press of urchins all about
His golden court and goblin route
But when the Abyssinian maid
Her dulceimeric music played,
I raised a daemon-lover shout --
The driver stopped and threw me out.
This much I learned in Xanadu:
"CsH5OH eschew."

I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken

"Those who speak know nothing;
Those who know are silent."
These words, as I am told,
Were spoken by Lao-tzu.
If we are to believe that Lao-tzu
Was himself
one who knew,
How comes it that he wrote a book
Of five thousand words?

Here's another gem:

To Minerva (from the Greek)

My temples throb, my pulses boil,
I'm sick of Song, and Ode, and Ballad -
So, Thyrsis, take the Midnight Oil
And Pour it on a lobster salad.

My brain is dull, my sight is foul,
I cannot write a verse, or read, -
Then, Pallas, take away thine Owl,
And let us have a lark instead.

Here's one you'll like, then:

The Bards We Quote

Whene'er I quote I seldom take
From bards whom angel hosts environ;
But usually some damned rake
Like Byron

Of Whittier I think a lot,
My fancy to him often turns;
But when I quote 'tis some such sot
As Burns

I'm very fond of Bryant, too,
He brings to me the woodland smelly;
Why should I quote that "village roo,"
P. Shelly

I think Felicia Hemans great,
I dote upon Jean Ingelow;
Yet quote such a reprobate
As Poe

To quote from drunkard or from rake
Is not a proper thing to do.
I find the habit hard to break,
Don't you?

~Bruce rolls up to a young lady at a high scale metropolitan bar. The air is filled with music and the tinkling laughter of lovers. She is beautiful. Her hair is the shade of scarlet as the blood that rushes through Wayne's veins as he stares at her. Her eyes are like uncut jade, hinting at the beauty that she truly is underneath~

~Bruce steps forward, his swagger at it's apex, he smiles lightly at her and slides in next to her. He makes a calculated, yet seemingly unplanned, brush of his hand against her skirt~

~she smiles back at him, coy yet inviting. Bruce may have hit the jackpot tonight~

~he opens his mouth to ask her name when..~

"WHAT HO MY FRIEND AND DEAR LADY!"

~Bruce's hands instantly go to his face~

"Oh fuck..."

~Out of the crowd comes Wingman. He stands proudly, posing in an imaginary wind before walking over to Bruce and the young lady. She looks quite off put by the man~

"DEAR LADY, I HOPE YOU HAVE PREPARED YOURSELF FOR A NIGHT OF PASSION, FOR THIS MAN HERE HAS PLACED HIS WAND WITHIN THE MAGICAL CONFINES OF MANY A FINE WITCH IF YOU FOLLOW MY METAPHOR!"

"YOU SEE, TO BE CRUDE,MY FRIEND HERE ~he claps a hand on Bruce's shoulder. Bruce seems to be in pain~ HAS A SNAKE THAT COULD SLIP INTO ANY RIVER! IN THAT METAPHOR, THE RIVE REPRESENTED YOUR VAGINA HA HA!"

~The woman takes out a can of pepper spray and slowly walks backwards~

"WHERE ARE YOU GOING YOUNG LADY? MY FRIEND HERE HAS A GIGANTIC PENIS! I SHOULD KNOW! WHAT HO! I SEEM TO HAVE SAID TOO MUCH! HA HA!"

~the woman runs. Wingman slides next to Bruce, the grin never leaving his face~

"DON'T WORRY OLD BOY! PLENTY OF FISH IN THE SEA! AND WHEN I SAY FISH I MEAN VAGINAS! HA HA!"
