Greetings True Believers!

I'm here to fulfill a request from crabby_lioness. It's superhero poker night!

It's the Kingpin vs. Spider-Man in a couple hands of no-limit Texas Hold'Em.

Enjoy!

Some NYC are holding a poker night at a local hotel. Black Cat, Angel, the FF, Dr. Strange and Spidey are attending.

There is lots of funny in this issue as Dr. Strange sucks hardcore at poker but suddenly there is knock at the door. It's Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime! He's there with a suitcase of cash and proposal, he wants in.

The heroes decide to let Fisk play.

There is more funny but this post about the poker-showdown.

They shoot the shit some more and suddenly it's down to Peter and the Fat Man.

Everyone is super-psyched with Spidey's win. Peter tells Reed to give the winnings to a cerebral palsy research foundation. He grabs a twenty and decides to buy MJ some flowers.

Spidey's reaction to the night:

Love this issue.

I'd love to see Fisk interact with other heroes like this in the future.

"Yoink!"

I want this Peter back. Fun, light-hearted even when the chips are down, happily married to MJ...

Agreed. This was like, everything a guy could love about Marvel and Spider-man back then, and then some.

This is so awesome! As a guy who plays regular Texas Hold 'Em, both Spidey's "Yoink!" and Strange's "Who won?" especially killed me.

If anybody could post some more superhero poker from Avengers, Marvel Two-In-One or that awesome superhero poker tourney from Slott's last issue of his Thing series (complete with The Great Lakes Whatever), I would do a joyful dance.

I like the interactions, but I'm not sold on everyone being so content to let Fisk play, this is a drug dealer, pimp, arms smuggler and murderer, amongst other things, the fact that most of that can't be proven in a court of law is irrelevant to the situation. Fisk is a monster, and his money is made from monstrous activities.

Heck, STEAL his money from him and give it to charity and I'd be happy with that, but to play with him like this? It just feels "off".

[shrug] With this particular group, I don't see it as much of a disconnect. The FF follow the rule of law. They don't LIKE Fisk, but they're not able to arrest him, so let sleeping dogs lie. They're probably not even all that aware of the extent of his activities (especially given they don't hunt street thugs). Spidey clearly sees it as a way to cuckold Fisk, just like he does. I would assume Angel feels the same way. They are playing with a known felon at the table...reformed or otherwise.

Now if Daredevil or Luke Cage were sitting at this table, that'd be different. :)

Eh, stealing from supervillain crime lords isn't always that wise. Look what happened to Selina Kyle's sister Maggie and her husband in Black Mask's retaliation for her stealing millions in diamonds from him.

The thing about Fisk is that he's absolutely determined to prove that despite how he made his money he's just as good as anyone else. He's always trying to "go legit" and hang out with the Right Crowd. Letting him in lulled him into thinking he was going to get the "good-guy cred" he's always going for, before taking him down.

Wait. This is fun, enjoyable, and none of the heroes look like wankers.

Do we need to get this writer into protective custody or something?

Paul Jenkins?

This is the same creator who also wrote the infamous Captain America doesn't do Myspace comic, so I'm not sure he's a precious thing to be protected exactly.

I love issues like this. A break from the punching to just let the character be themsevles and interact with each other. I think issues like this are needed every so often.

Fun stories like these I love. This may end up as my number 1 Spidey vs. Kingpin encounter. The other one being in the Kingpin arc in Ultimate Spider-Man where Pete pissed off Kingpin with the fat jokes in order to beat him.
