Having been burned out on Zombies since the beginning of the year, I do appreciate the fresh takes we've been getting on them thanks to Machine Man and Howard the Duck's cross-dimensional voyages. CosmicBookNews has the preview, we get a different kind of "zombie" to have our heroes "bring the noise" to. 2 behind the cut.

Amadeus in the cyberspace metaverse... an interesting take as to what he could do. Been a while since I read any sci-fi hacker-speak.

I don't even know where to begin this one, so much to choose from. Hmmm.. let me try the nitpick, as I thought "machines that feed and run on human flesh" are called sarx after the greek term "angelic flesh". Soylent green, anyone?

Oh, and on the cover... if anyone can't place it, it's a homage to Roberto from Futurama.

I can't believe they dug up Iron Man 2010 for this.

There has got to be some kind of continuity robot in Marvel's basement. I am endlessly amazed by the obscure crap they dig up and put to work.

There has got to be some kind of continuity robot in Marvel's basement.

In the old days his name was Mark Gruenwald, God rest his soul, and his knowledge was approaching the terrifying, seriously Iron Man 2020 is the equivalent of Spider-Man compared to some of the people he'd fold into his stories.

Then Mr Busiek sort of took over the role, I don't know who does it now.

If I remember correctly, Warren Ellis was talking about how there's a quiet initiative at Marvel these days to reuse old characters rather than creating old ones. In a way, right now, the entire damned company is Mark Gruenwald.

I mean, really, look at cosmic Marvel. Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Monark Starkiller...

I wish they told that to the people writing Avengers Academy.

I'm not sure I get where you're going with that, unless you're being pointlessly snarky about not liking Avengers Academy.

Complaining that they went out of their way not to use any of the existing teen characters they made over the last decade for a bunch of new kids (and Reptil). Sweeping a bunch of them into limbo when Initative was canceled.

It's been two months. I'm not sure it's "limbo" unless they stay gone for a year or more, particularly since the same writer is working on the followup book.

I thought the continuity robot was Roy Thomas, how that man put together the Invaders and the All-Star Squadron in the days before Wikipedia is anyone's guess.

That "hacker speak" was almost as painful as listening to CSI try to talk about IRC like its a hardcore secret hacker program.

That internet scene... It's like something Warren Ellis wrote while sober.

Or Hackers.

Having recently read Neuromancer, I know the way characters speak is dated, but I like to see DATED language instead of something that's dated and trying way too hard to incorporate stuff from modern day.

ROBOT zombies. Well, that's a twist - not to mention that it stretches the term 'zombie' beyond what is really comfortable. Oh, how I long for the day when someone will feature actual VOODOO-type zombies again, instead of these endless brain-chomping Romero clones. I will weep tears of sweet, sweet joy. Hey, you've GPT some of those, Marvel, you know. The ones you used to call 'zuvembies'? 'Brother Voodoo', all that? Please tell me they haven't been swept under the rug...

Not that I've seen, but it's out in trade paperback.

Incidentally, Brother Voodoo is now the Sorcerer Supreme. He got his own short-lived series at the end of the last year and just showed up in the first issue of the new volume of New Avengers.

So no, they haven't forgotten. You just didn't notice.

I don't doubt it, but that's just a term - I doubt the first thing that most people think of when they think 'zombies' is 'robots'.
