And seriously, if the cat is from Earth, then why is it named Dex-Starr?

(Adding "depth" to a joke character is NEVER a good idea.)

It was always my pet (pun intended) theory that Dex-Starr was Peej's cat, Stinky. Since they had the same last name and all.

Wait! What if that's how he thinks of his own name, filtered through his pea-sized cat brain? It's gibberish to him, but it's his name? It's a stretch, but I'll take it unless Johns actually comes up with a justification somewhere!

That was my thought. Dexter can sound like Dex-Starr and he probably never read his name.

When I saw the character, I expected him to be like Ch'p - an alien species that looked similar to an Earth animal.
I'm honestly dissapointed
