Awww. I am a total lurker but I couldn't resist commenting after seeing this one on Latest Things just because I'm a major sucker for dogs. IDC about how they are forced to eat human meat because DOGS. ♥ It's not their fault they are owned by evil murderers. The killing of the dogs made me mad at Rorschach, honestly, even though I usually like him :|

Look, after the Ruffles post last week, I was already primed to be crushed just from the frickin' preview image. I clicked anyway. I knew SOMEthing was coming, I didn't know what. But I knew. And I read the whole thing with dread.

So the twist actually made me laugh. A bitter laugh, ala some of the most gloriously cruel TWILIGHT ZONE episodes, but a laugh nonetheless.

No, it wasn't the dogs fault. Yes, cruelty to animals is bad. Yes, it's interesting to consider the story from the dogs' perspective.

A good story well told, but... a little girl was kidnapped, brutally murdered, and fed to the dogs... and the sad thing is that the dogs died?

I'm not really feeling it. My sympathy is with the child instead.

I felt kind of bad for the dogs until Rorschach showed up and I realized what the dogs had been eating. Now I'm ambivalent about the whole thing.

Well, maybe a little disgusted. The guy likes his dogs so much he feeds them little girls. Hmmmm.

It reminds me of my dog, not that she was fed human meat or anything of course. But her owners were really neglectful and abusive towards her, they lived across the street from us and she always got out of the back yard and came over to our house because our dog and her were friends I guess. And eventually after uhm, calling the police who didn't see anything wrong, they let us have her. Now she's happy and spoiled...

I knew it was gonna be sad. That art is not paired with that sort of first line so it can end up a happy story. But I just had to know how it ended.

i don't feel sorry for the girl. the girl was a human. we are a terrible species that incarcerates other creatures and tortures them for their whole miserable lives. girls grow up to be the mothers of killers. the dogs in this story are no different from all the other animals that we keep captive for our pleasure. they have no choice about what they eat, or even whether they will be able to eat or not. all we have to do is nothing, and they will starve and die. i feel very very sorry for these dogs and for all dogs, even those whose lives are 'nice', because they are all prisoners, and like the prisoners in new orleans during katrina, always in danger of death when the captor's attention is diverted.
