did this issue seem to have Clark Kent as a teen playing Superboy, but the adult Legion we'd recently seen in the New Krypton storyline?

I think that's wrong.

Yeah, I was deep incredibly confused by that too...

I haven't read any of Levitz's previous Legion stuff, but did he always have Brande talk in that... pseudo-Jewish/Interlac is my second language manner?

No, he didn't talk like that before, ever.

(Jewish?)

The "verdammt" thing was always there, but other than that, he didn't.

Jewish? o_O

He's got some sort of speech impediment caused by the same disease that caused him to stay stuck in that form.

But he's been stuck in that form for years, and has never had the annoying speech impediment before.

See, I remember seeing the speech impediment a few years ago in other S_D posts - and don't see anything out of the ordinary, but I'm very likely mistaken or confused.

Also he sounds more like a Russian guy from a movie. I almost expect him to start saying stuff about Moose und Squirrel.

the chronology greatly confuses me, too. it seems to be set in the silver age but they're wearing their current costumes and it's set after Brande's death in the Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes story from not too long ago.

Its Superboy with the adult legion, the Will specified that it be Superboy because of the conclusion. Brande thanks Brainiac 5 for making his dream come true by inventing the time bubble so he could prove Superboy was not a myth.

One of the many things I liked about the post-ZH Legion was that it wasn't so Superman centric (because there had been no Clark-Superboy), but acknolwedged that there had been many young heroes in Earth's history, Kon, the original Teen Titans, and the like, and THESE were what truly inspired RJ Brande, since even when there had been a Clark-Superboy he had never been a member of any team except the Legion. Also Valor being more important to the 30th Century than Superman.

Making Superman the focus again seems just downright weird, since only pre-Crisis Superman had much in the way of interplantary adventures.

That would be the most accurate claim, yes.

Such shrewdness from Jews in space? Feh. He should find nice Durlan girl.

(When I lay on my Ancient Jewish Mother Voice, ppl scream how accurate it is. I've never even met a relative who speaks like it. Jews love to identify with Jewish stereotypes... Least with my generation we can kid ourselves we're being self-deprecating to disarm anti-semitism. Ah, blissful ignorance)

I'd equate "Ancient Jewish Mother Voice" with "Strine", the Australian language you hear in movies and TV and see in books, which is Australian taken to the ultimate extreme of accent and dialect, turned up to 11.

One noted author wrote a chapter of a book with an Australian character, and sent it to an Australian friend to query whether he would ever use the words he'd assigned to the character. The friend replied that yes, he would indeed use all those words as an Australian, but not all in the same sentence!
