sherkahn: Monarch from the Venture Brothers (The Monarch)

The end is here. At least for Marvel Zombies. ComicBookResources has the preview.

How will the world end? In a plague of fan-boy rage.

Nope, that's not me. Not me at all. Not ONE bit. And I enjoy my summers swimming the in a river in Egypt.

Eh. Cardboard is compact, but it lacks the tactile quality of the real thing.

Is that meant to be contract?

I don't think so.

I read that as Roy Thomas contacting DC when he was very young, and they replied with the second hand sales thing.

See, I'm willing to look past fanboy attacks a lot of the time. I'm willing to say that people get a little too crazy thinking OMD is a personal attack against fans and all that, but shit like this is just fucking embarrassing.

Sorry Marvel, your Zombies series fucking blows. You took a decent concept and buried 6000 feet under ground, dug it back up, had a Weekend at Bernies adventure with it, buried it 500 feet down and then dug it up and tossed it onto oncoming traffic on a freeway.

See, this shit doesn't even work in the comic. Stop trying to act like fans are at fault because your fucking awful comic sucks. This is the comic equivalent of a youtube comment. Do you really want me to repeat that guys? A fucking youtube comment by GokuLinkinPark666 is on the same mental level as this comic.

Just let that sink in.

Harsh.

Accurate, but harsh.

Sorry Marvel, your Zombies series fucking blows.

Um, that's your opinion. The fact that it's gone on this long means that it's selling well, which is a pretty good indicator that there's people out there who thinks it doesn't blow.

And I'm one of them, honestly. You'd think a franchise like this would have little legs, but they've managed to rework the concept enough to keep it fresh. I especially liked the series where Arron played the role of Ash in Evil Dead II.

Stop trying to act like fans are at fault because your fucking awful comic sucks.

Where the Hell are you getting that? Not only do I see no sign of that being implied, this perhaps the least offensive portrayal of comic fans I've seen in a while.

The owner asks a legitimate question - there are people (not many maybe, but there are) who buy comics they don't particularly like, and why do they do that? The fan, while admitting that it is a little silly, has a reason for doing so - a reason that's very similar to the one I used to have when I was still picking up Runaways, even though I hated the writing. They exchange pleasantries, and leave on good terms. At no point do they insult or mock each other, and neither is portrayed in bad or offensive light (except for maybe the fan's hair - that hair is offensive).

Mark Millar saying that comic book readers lived meaningless lives and "this is my face while fucking you in the ass" was insulting. This really isn't.

Of the six series, MZ2 and MZ:Return weren't much good. The rest have actually been pretty decent. Van Lente got a lot of mileage out of the topic once he took over, and has gotten some fun stories out of backwater Marvel continuity.

Your complaint isn't even really founded in the page from the comic itself, as nefrekeptah's already said. The fan's not at fault for any problems with the comic, but the fan is at fault for continuing to do something he actively dislikes.

Actually, this is bringing the concept full circle. Back in the 80's, "Marvel zombies" was a common phrase to describe collectors who bought comics they hated for completion's sake, and it was usually Marvel they were into.

I originally heard it referring to a story in The Comics Buyer's Guide about a guy who was whining in the shop about how much he hated Groo the Wanderer (which immediately marked him as a deviant anyway), but he had to buy it...BECAUSE IT WAS MARVEL!

Actually I've found this series pretty great, because of the well-written Aaron and Howard.

The Marvel Zombies books *before* they started starring Aaron Stack however... guh.

You know, this joke would be better if it were done in an actual good comic that languishes with low sales from not having major characters or a lazy gimmick behind it.

I don't really mind Marvel taking pot shots at their readers. But I'm also not interested in hearing creators lament that people aren't buying comics like they used to, all the while blind to the possibility that maybe routinely pissing off the readers is a factor.

Maybe because most creators don't routinely piss off their readers. Or maybe because creators in other medium routinely piss off their fans without any repercussions at all - Mike and Bryan were total trolls to Zutara shippers, and it didn't their affect their show's ratings at all.

Marvel Zombies was a really unique concept. It's a shame Marvel ran it into the ground.

If by "into the ground" you mean "completely changing the creative team after the second volume, then changing the setting, protagonists, antagonists, and artists for every volume after that," followed by "selling 20,000 copies per month as a floppy without marketing it at all," then sure.

Let me get this straight.
The last type of Marvel Zombies they have to track down are... Marvel Zombies? As in the original sense of the term, the fans?
...
That's kinda brilliant, actually. I'm not sure how good the execution is, but the concept is an arresting one.
