Ipods sucks. My nano is failing appart, and I have to guide through the menus and song lists with a blank screen. I miss the "whur" of my Cd players.

Aw, that sucks. My ipod shuffle is still kicking pretty nicely, over four years now which is at least one year longer than the battery was supposed to last. I guess it all depends on the make and model.

I'm not an Apple fan, but I will always say how amazed I am at my iPod- it's a third gen I've had for about six years or so and it's still working great. Granted, it has no battery life anymore, but I have a smaller, more pocket-friendly Nano (also third gen, now that i think about it) to cart around so the old one gets to chill permanently on its cradle for home use.

I think mine's 4th gen? Pretty damned old, and it doesn't have the battery life that it used to (And a slight glitch in how much it shows vs. how much it has that's easy to get around), but it's still trucking along like a champ.

My iPod video won't last on it's own for more than 20 secs. Luckily I either dock it to my home theater or my car these days. There's replacement battery kits out there, they look relatively easy and they're cheap.

Even as a fan of Apple, I find this very amusing. <3 They should just install Windows or Steam on the thing, that'll slow it down. :D

A handshake is a general computing term used to describe the process of one computer establishing a connection with another computer or device. The handshake is often the steps of verifying the connection, the speed, and/or the authorization of the computer trying to connect to it. An example of handshaking is when a modem connects to another modem; the tones heard after the dialing is the handshake and can be thought of as the computers greeting each other.

Thanks. Odd that I've never heard the term, as I do use the internet and computers quite a lot.

I don't own a single apple product. Not really an active choice, I just have no reason to buy any of it.

Nah, Microsoft is still the real Microsoft. They just killed a device called the Kin (marketed as a low-cost social-networking alternative to smartphones) after it had been on the market for a whopping six weeks; it's really interesting to read the reasons why.

Was Microsoft really ever any kind of threat to anyone or anything? Even when it was going on, the idea that IE was bundled in struck me as about as scary as a puppy. And it wasn't like you couldn't use a different browser even with it there, even then--I used Netscape. And nowadays it seems very quaint that such a big deal was made over such a minor issue. So you couldn't remove it; it didn't mean you had to USE it.

Microsoft is not evil, it's just a big clumsy business. I never found them intrusive. And the idea Macs don't crash is a lie. I've had Apple machines(at places I've worked) crash much more often than PCs. The first Mac I ever used at a job, an iMac, crashed HOURLY just running Excel. But the Apple tech we contracted probably made a fortune off us.

I like my iphone but Jesus, Safari shits itself constantly. If it's not just shutting down and refreshing all my pages it's locking up for like 3 hours until it finally decides it wants to work.

This might be stating the obvious, but the gag seems like it's bashing social networking more than anything else, with a thin veneer of Apple hate.

I happen to think all of apple's products outside of the iPod are overrated and expensive. But iTunes customer service has been real good to me so I swore allegiance to them, long ago

I swear no allegiance to any brand. If a part doesn't work, or a device doesn't work, I replace it so it DOES work and don't care what brand it is.

And as far as iTunes...well...I can play Beatles songs on MY mp3 player and I have them all. ;)

And this my friends, is why I use the Sansa Clip. 8G ridiculously basic green on black display, has been dropped (on concrete and tile), drop kicked, drowned in soda and hauled around on my belt on a daily basis.

Still works, and it isn't smart enough to plot my downfall or assimilation

Enh I'm a partial Luddite, it took me forever to warm up to digital cameras and watches that require batteries.

I like simple things that do the job they are supposed to do well, instead of do alot of things rather badly.

God I sound like an old woman.

What's the difference between the Microsoft and Apple monopolies?

You can use Windows on any computer that isn't Apple, there's one right there. Oh, and Steve Jobs dresses cooler than Bill Gates. And doesn't spend a fortune to stop diseases in children. And PR, nothing but PR.

I always laughed at the MS vs. Apple debate, because Apple's is a perfect vertical monopoly, even more so now. At least MS can't shut your devices down for using them how you want.

I have actually seen people go crazy because their iPhone didn't work, but not say anything like you might if something from MS crashed, like "Fucking Apple!" or whatever. It's a cult Jobs has built and I imagine he just laughs and laughs.

Also: what's the difference between Mac and PC? About a thousand dollars and the ability to sniff snobbily at your PC-owning friends as they simply swap out parts that stop working, while you have the honor of paying much more to have it serviced.

Yeah, Apple's for rich people who can pay to have their stuff constantly fixed and upgraded.
