The New Titans #91 Total Chaos Part 5!

Sorry about taking so long between posts but...I doubt anyone really like this except for me given the reactions I've been seeing.

Last we left off Lord Chaos had kidnapped his mom and helped her through the birth of future him, Robert Long.

Meanwhile...

Totally not Future Nightwing arrives the past/present. Poor bastard.

The New Titans and Team Titans continue to work well together.

Oh Terra, you and your painful school girl crush on Gar.

Fighting as usual erupts between the groups.

Looking back the Dagon biting Starfire bit makes less sense than usual, considering isn't her blood supercharged with sunlight? Oh well.

During the battle Pantha gets knocked out by Terra and...

The ensuing "Holy fuck" moment leads to Killowat accidentally starting a fire and forcing the group to abandon the house.

Meanwhile....

As Lord Chaos goes to find dear old dad a an eruption of power strikes the place the Titans Teams are.

And if you think this is crazy or way too 90's just wait until you see Battalion next issue, even Cable would think the guy is too muscley and gun armed.

After they all (Except for Donna) enjoyed a hardy laugh after noticing that goofy assed helmet thing Troia was wearing. What's that, the NBC logo?

I'm guessing the battle ended either when the Crappy Costume Police (CCP) popped over and had her arrested. Yeck. Yellow tights. Peacock Logo helmet..Orange gloves..Still, I like this art. I've always liked Tom Grummett's art. He's the only guy who could do Pantha/Wildebeast justice. His Nightwing looks good even with his silly costume/mullet. Starfire looks like an alien..And not a supermodel with a bad tan..And Terry Long only looks sort of creepy..

I'm trying to remember...did this seem normal at the time?

Wow, this is really CRACKY. I mean, DAMN.

I like it, mind you. I mean, its crazy as hell but at least its going somewhere. Was this the beginning of Donna Troy's personal story going off-track?

Depends on how you look at it.

In a sense, yes. After this she went off & became a Darkstar & started sleeping with Kyle Rayner.

Of course, some people would say she started going wonky when Marv married her. ;P

The Donna "ruining" happened when Bryne got a hold of her. Though even beforehand, her giving up her powers and staying in the kitchen was lame. I loved her as a Darkstar and she was a very strong character when she was one, and liked when she started a relationship with Kyle.

There was also nothing wrong with her marriage to Terry :( Though I might be the only hardcore Donna fan that thinks that, hahaha.

This is totally GRAR with extra GRAR.

An interesting way of putting it...

Oh, you know. Wozzisface kills his mom and then decides he needs to kill his dad, too, and the Titans fight amongst themselves and then Wildebeest gets big and then Donna gets really big and GRAR.

I get what you mean, it's just an interesting way of putting it.

I always thought Baby was kind of a dull character overall but its scenes like this where you're reminded how much he loved Pantha and would die/fight to protect her that makes the fact that DC (or Geoff Johns) has made the abrupt and off-hand manner in which they were killed into a running joke in the modern DC (especially Pantha having her head literally taken off by Prime - by accident because S-P didn't know his own strength, which was supposed to the point before GJ had to turn Prime into a turd).

If a company doesn't respect its own characters, why should readers?

[personal profile] psychopathicus_rex 2010-07-21 03:49 (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I personally think it's a crime to wipe out characters in droves like that. 'There are no bad characters, only bad writers', remember - someone could have done some great things with them. Of course, in comics, life IS cheap, and death easily reversible, but they don't have to TREAT it that way.

Lord Chaos is totally nuts- "This timeline isn't working out as I remember. Maybe I just need to kill someone *else* who doesn't appear to be directly involved in this temporal paradox!"

Looking back the Dagon biting Starfire bit makes less sense than usual, considering isn't her blood supercharged with sunlight? Oh well.

Ummm, I don't think anyone's blood works like that even aliens. Her body metabolises sunlight directly for her starbolts (and possibly her Tamaranean flight powers), but sunlight itself is nothing special within her body.

I dunno about that. For me the mullet was reeeeeally pushing it.

But, hey, I like the disco collar.

Y'know, I never realized until now that Baby Wildebeest used to be, well, baby-sized. I'd kinda assumed that he'd always been full-sized with the intellect of a toddler. Interesting to see him Hulk out like that. 'BABY KILL BAD MANS WHO HURT MOMMA!' Rather heartwarming, really, in a slightly psychotic way.

Yeah, he was always in his little overalls. I'm just picturing Pantha taking him over to Target to pick up the latest batch of OshKosh B'gosh's.

Sniff. Why did they go and have to kill 'em off? :`(

[personal profile] psychopathicus_rex 2010-07-21 12:37 (UTC)(link)
There, there. It's comics - they'll be back some day. That's one of the great things about the genre as it currently exists - survive long enough yourself, and eventually, ALL of your favorite dead characters will come back.
