Except Mephisto hasn't lied. He may conveniently leave something out, for example--like when he rescued Ghost Rider's father, he didn't tell him that he would die later--as a way to fuck the person over. Not telling Peter who the little girl was is a prime example of that.

Perfect example. He didn't say that the father would die later and he didn't tell Peter that the daughter could be born later. ("Your daughter" could very easily mean "the daughter you two would have together," not "any possible daughter either of you could have.") Since nowhere was it said that both Peter and MJ would become sterile as a result, and since they've both been shown to have healthy dating lives, there's no reason to believe that future children are out of the question.

Looking at it outside the narrative, you and I both know that Peter would never have a daughter in 616, no matter what. In effect, he was telling someone who was blind from birth, "from now on, you won't be able to see."

20 years ago, you and I would both know that Spiderman would never get married, too. Or for that matter that Lois Lane would ever actually find out Superman's secret identity and eventually also get married to him. There are no absolutes in comics. It's really not that hard to believe that Spiderman would have had a daughter, eventually...especially given that there's been comics featuring him having a daughter in the future. It's distinctly possible...or was, at any rate.

Fair enough (Though, 20 years ago, Spider-Man was already married and I think Superman and Lois were at least engaged. They had already been married on Earth 2), but why would it be less possible now?

Because Mary Jane is Peter's only true love? 40 years ago, if anyone told you that Mary Jane would replace Gwen in Peter's life, you would have laughed.

I feel it's worth pointing out that the spirit of May herself told Peter to let her go.

ALSO, SHE'S LIKE 98, HOW LONG CAN SHE BE HAPPILY MARRIED? PETER YOU GODDAMN DINGLEBERRY!
