Four scans apiece from Captain America #608 and Captain America: Forever Allies #1.

In the main title, Zemo's campaign of sabotage continues; New Cap and Black Widow defeat his minion, Beetle II (she doesn't do much better than the original Beetle), and interrogate her.  The only thing she says is that she's working for someone who knows who Bucky is; Natasha eventually deduces that it's Zemo, given the clues hidden in his attacks so far.  Then, leaving Thunderbolts HQ (in Natasha hat news, she's got a beret with the Black Widow logo on it), they run into some reporters:

Guice's art is becoming progressively more like Kirby's in terms of facial expressions, particularly on Bucky (Natasha, meanwhile, looks very Gene Colan through most of this issue).

Given the solicits for #611, the direction of Zemo's scheme is rather obvious, but this should be an interesting story.

The other comic with Bucky that came out this week, Roger Stern's Forever Allies miniseries, actually also has a bit dealing with his secret identity; this seems to be set during "Dark Reign" still (which would make sense, given that the present-day segments take place in the timeframe of the original Young Allies special that came out last year), so Bucky is undercover using a fake ID Natasha gave him for part of it (as "Barney Jamieson"; I am forced to assume Natasha put this identity together while giggling madly).

Bucky attends the funeral of Washington Jones, the last member of the Young Allies to die; while there, he sees a Japanese woman who looks just like Lady Lotus, one of their old villains.  Bucky investigates whether she's still around, and we flash back to 1943:

Stern's approach to the rather, uh, period-specific depiction of Jones (as well as the general quality of the comics) is one of the more interesting uses of metacommentary I've seen in comics lately.  Given how Bucky repeatedly states that the publisher also totally ripped off their imagines and never paid them for it, it's especially funny.

Lady Lotus is up to no good, so the boys go out and look into it.  Lotus is one of the few Japanese villains in Captain America's history; you rarely see stories set in the Pacific Theatre.

Bucky finds that there's a woman who looks like Lotus and has psychic powers in super-jail in Colorado, so he heads out there using his fake ID as a reporter to go see her.  The guards bring her into the room, and Bucky immediately declares that that woman isn't Lady Lotus.

Why just the left boob? Why not both boobs?

She can do them independently.

You should see her make a sweater dance!

I don't know. Boobs that go out that far are just.... not sexy. In fact, looking at the way the curve goes, her left boob is about a whole inch lower than the right! Eww!

I think the idea is that they're 'floating' on the surface of the water, so they may not normally protrude that far when she's out of the tub.

I thought the inaccurate speculation as to how he was still alive was a nice touch. A lot of people probably do think he has that serum.

Obviously, I don't know who's call it was to keep Bucky as Cap - Brubaker or Marvel itself - but I'm glad they did. I think there's still a lot of interesting stories to be told with Buck as Cap and this current story only proves it.

I'm WAY behind in my Cap reading, though. I've been picking them up not in hardcover or trade. No, I'm a true sucker for punishment, albeit a patient sucker. I've been reading them in Omnibus form. Fortunately, the next one, which collects up to Steve's return, is coming out this fall. *grin!*

Young Allies continues to look intriguing. The use of Lady Lotus, however, raises a question or two. I don't have any problem with LL herself, per se - she's an awesome villain - but her usage here may prove somewhat problematic because of one thing - Quesada's 'no smoking in our comics' policy. Back when she originally appeared, Lady Lotus was never seen without her trademark cigarette holder, as befitted a Dragon Lady femme fatale of the era. Now, I don't have any problem with her not using the holder in the modern day - it's been a while, after all; she could well have quit - but if they're featuring her back in her glory days, they can't very well do an accurate portrayal of her without it. So either they whitewash over the issue, which would be exasperating (for cryin' out loud, it was the '40's! NOT showing people smoking all over the place is the greatest inaccuracy of all time!), or they somehow get Big Q to lighten up a bit for this story - which, given his track record, is sadly unlikely. Oh, well - she's a cool character anyway.
Uh, Toro, you do realize you basically just set the theater on fire, don't you...?

yeah.. with Steve as top cop, i dont see this being plausible scenario insomuch as all he has to do is say "shut up, he's my boy"and the matter is over

dont get me wrong LOVE Brubaker i just think this might be stretching

It's the Marvel U. This is very public, and Bucky did commit those war crimes. Keep in mind, after he died, people were still calling Steve a traitor. They are not super pro-hero even now, I'd guess. Steve could probably try to cover this up, but that really be the just thing? It definitely wouldn't go over well, PR-wise.

It seems to me that the best way to fight this would be to bring out the full truth. Bucky is a victim in all this, and if the Marvel U was able to forgive Norman Osborn...

To ask the MU public to act consistently is asking a bit much. They like the Fantastic Four, but hate mutants.

I'm sure they'll explain he was brainwashed, but it'll be an ordeal no matter what.

I have not seen thought balloons like that in a LONG time XD The cloud shaped ones, anyway. They're usually shaped different, or all fadey.
I won't even comment about the boob.
I do love when they show stuff about the Young Allies.
