This came out today. It marks the return of two things: 1) The Elseworlds label. 2) Cary Bates, Silver and Bronze Age Superman writer, to the character he spent almost two decades writing.

And I have to admit that I read Lara's comment as "Racists believe all living beings have hidden potential" and was more than slightly confused.

I think I'm gonna like this. I'm seeing the El/Kent thing being a critique about how Superman sees his identity and who he thinks his real parents are. You know, like how writers like Alan Moore see Superman as Kal-El as the real one with Clark Kent as the disguise, and others who see Superman as being truly Clark Kent.

From what I hear, of the three El children who are going to be in this, he will be the most well adjusted, so maybe it might be more of a mixture. Can't wait until next month!

I thought it was one of DC's biggest damn mistakes was doing away with the Elseworlds line THAT and then saying that a good number of the Elseworlds were going to be folded into the 52 and by extension mainstream DC continuity (which is counter to the entire point of Elseworlds).

Is it my imagination that Lara on the cover page seems to be modeled from Alex Ross' drawing Wonder Woman?

For a moment, I thought it was Kal and Diana and then realized that this is Jor and Lara.

Btw, something about it looks absolutely HOT!

Oh man, Cary Bates. He wrote so many of my favorite Superman stories from when I was a kid. I think I'll always imagine Clark the way Cary wrote him--thoughtful but not angsty, cautious and aware of his role in the scheme of humanity but not afraid to act on his own best instincts. Also, nothing will beat the "Curt Swan meets Superman" story. Wish I had scans of that.

Also, I find it hilarious that the solution to dislike of the spotlight and need for a parental figure besides a robot nanny is not to spend more time with the kid yourselves, because that would take away from international celebrityism and the general workaholic nature, but to hand him off to new parents. At least you're sort of trying, I mean you screened the couples and all, but parents of the year you two aren't.

It's not need for a parental figure - it's the need to get him out of the spotlight. The problem wasn't the robonanny dying, it was that without the robonanny to keep them away, the paparazzi swooped in.

I think the only universes where Lex Luthor isn't a dick are the anti-matter Earth, where all morality is reversed and you have the Crime Syndicate and the Justice Underground, and maybe the pocket Earth where Matrix-Supergirl came from. Every other universe? Lex Luthor: DOUCHE.
