Ok, so the group seems to be quieting down as the summer closes. I thought I should post this as a reminder of gentler, simpler times, when the summer mornings were spent playing with friends and the eagerness to get a drive down to the local news stand to see the latest in the funny papers.

I think it's in Spider-Man 2099 that the new Spider-Man, having been genetically mixed with a spider, discovers he can fire webbing from organic spinnerettes in his forearms, and is relieved that he isn't TOO much like a spider or he'd be firing it out of his ass.

I love that kind of crazy comic-book dialogue.

It's one reason (among many) I love Freedom Force, EVERYTHING was described in this manner.

It may have happened in 2099, but something similar happened at the end of The Other, too.

Also the novelization of the 2002 live-action Spider-Man film. 100% for sure; I own a copy and am looking at page 82 right now. It was part of his inner monologue during the scene where he accidently shot webbing in the middle of the school cafeteria and snagged somebody's lunch tray. Basically amounted to "OMG there is webbing... I have spinnerets in my forearms, THANK GOD they aren't in my ass instead... this may bear investigation, and... OMG I am shooting webs out of my arms, please let nobody notice!" And then *somebody* forgot to consider momentum versus friction and accidently flung the tray onto Flash's head in an effort to get it off of his arm. **sigh** Silly Peter, you should know better.

Oh my gosh, I had that exact comic when I was a kid. Those occasional blasts from the past make Scans Daily that much more fun.

And finally, new Venture Brothers. I can already sing along to the first half of the season.

Huh! I've been reading through the Essentials reprints of Amazing Spider-Man, and just read this issue a little while ago. I love how there's a self-promoting cameo from EVERY marvel hero.

I've seen another version of this (maybe a missing page?) where Stan is saying that if Pete's webbing were an inch thick, the Thing wouldn't be able to break it, and it shows Ben with a cable of this stuff around his arms and he's looking all panicked.

I believe Peter tried marketing them, but it was a commercial failure because you could only by them in 180 degree half-mask's, and it was always the left hand side of the mask, so you couldn't even buy two of them.

Hm. Forty times his own weight. Assuming Peter weighs around 150 lbs -- a reasonable amount for a man of his size and build -- that's 6000 lbs, or 3 tons.

I wonder how it got bumped up to 10 tons.
