To answer your first question: Well, he BEAT the dragon. I can't remember if he actually killed it (and I have neither scans nor the issue itself on hand to check).

"His name was Espinosa" is a take on the line from Fight Club "His Name was Robert Paulson." It's a reference to both senseless death, and the fact that Chuck Austen got his last name wrong.

*shrug* Well, if you ever get the chance, I do recommend it. Mostly because I'm an Edward Norton fan. Though if it's just not your thing that's perfectly understandable.

My Spanish is all but non-existent, but basing it on the context, I think it means he was trying to be a macho guy and it failed miserably.

Oh, I get that - it's just that the wording he used seemed to imply that he was making an intentional reference to someone or something else.
