Saw this posted on /co/. I don't know where it came from but it's pretty neat. The less said the better, so...

WOW. Bermejo can do a great Waterson impression, and it's fun seeing Azzarello write something that's fun. :D

Fun. I wish Azzarellos's Superman run had been like this instead of that forgettable confusing "For Tomorrow" stuff.

Not to mention DOCTOR THIRTEEN, which is still one of the happiest happy-making comics I've ever read.

I actually liked For Tomorrow--it's basically a massive love letter to Lois and Clark.

I know, this is seriously incredible. Waterson had an amazing range and Bermejo manages to hit on those strengths one after another. And it all feels deliciously creepy while still being respectful.

Lex's character design reminds me of Charlie Brown.

That's the one, single thing that bothered me about this - but I salute the creators for the rest, because it's brilliant. Just the first two panels, even.

I think he's basically supposed to be Calvin without the hair. Waterson lists 'Peanuts' among his artistic influences, so it's not surprising there's a trace of Schultz in his work and its imitators.

I love how Lex breaks the Fourth Wall when the Joker tells him what to do.

I'm going to need that icon'd, stat!

Oh, so much to love here. So much, from the fact that Lois looks like Calvin's Mom to the fact that Superman's fist is bigger than Lex's ENTIRE HEAD (and, and the teeny little Lex is perfect -- Napoleon Complex anyone?)... and Lex's little "seriously what." expression at the end there...

And am I the only one who thinks that Hobbes!Joker is possibly the most creepy Joker ever?

It's that mouth. He looks like if he opened wide enough he could swallow Lex's head.

I don't know about 'the most', but he's certainly up there. It helps that he's clearly supposed to be Lex's kinda-sorta imaginary friend in the way that Hobbes is to Calvin (if there were more 'Joker and Lex' strips, might we not see Lex lugging around a stuffed Joker doll when in public?), so there's an air of unsettling unreality to him - if Hobbes is Calvin's friend, conscience and better self, this Joker is clearly Lex's inner demon and 'imp of the perverse'. There's also the knowing smile plastered on his face - the Joker has always been a bit creepier when he's NOT outright grinning. This guy has more of an 'I know something you don't know - and it's NASTY!' look.

Question - are the plots that Lex and Joker respectively endorse references to ongoing storylines, or just generic Lex and Joker schemes? Joker's certainly tried the 'make him hate himself' thing more than once.
That aside, this is certainly well done. I like all the little details, like their hanging out by the Legion of Doom's HQ, and the fact that the first two panels are redundant ones that don't relate to the rest of the strip, like most modern sunday strips do. (Also, the fact that the Joker seems to have transmogrified his right arm into Batman's for one panel.)
